Chelsea Youngster Hutchinson On Town's List
Monday, 17th Jul 2023 19:32

Chelsea forward Omari Hutchinson is among the names on Town’s list of potential summer recruits, TWTD understands.

Earlier this evening, The Chelsea Spot reported that the 19-year-old is in advanced talks with the Blues regarding a loan, however, we understand that that overstates the position but with Hutchinson a player who is of interest to Town as Kieran McKenna looks to make further additions to his squad ahead of the start of the season.

Redhill-born Hutchinson had spells with his current club, Charlton and Arsenal as an academy player before returning to Stamford Bridge last summer.

Hutchinson has made two senior sub appearances for Chelsea - one on the league in addition to having been on the bench a further four times without getting on the field - and has stayed behind from their pre-season tour in order to sort out a loan.

Last season, he netted seven goals and picked up eight assists in 21 games for West Londoners' U21s in Premier League 2.

Hutchinson has played at Portman Road, for Arsenal in the Papa Johns Trophy tie in December 2021 in which he netted the decisive penalty in the shootout.

West Brom were understood to be keen on a loan in January and there's speculation that they could renew their interest.

Having been capped by England at U17 and U19 level, Hutchinson switched allegiance to Jamaica, for whom he has made two senior appearances.

Another attacking player to operate either behind the main striker or out wide looks to be one of the Blues' priorities ahead of the start of the season with Crystal Palace's Jesurun Rak-Sakyi understood to be another player Town have been eyeing.

Speculation usually comes to nothing when Mr Ashton is involved.

Do we need another winger/forward player? We have Broadhead, Harness, Edwards, Chaplin, Aluko, Burns, Jackson & maybe Taylor pushing up as McKenna stated!! Maybe a centre half & call it a day on signings for now. We have got a great strong squad⚽️

Agreed planetblue2011, a centre half.

According to The Daily Telegraph today, Manchester City have put Cole Palmer up for loan. Unfortunately, with Prem clubs like Burnley and Brighton after him, we are unlikely to have much chance of success should we consider a bid.

As in the link its a Championship rule, which makes taking on a young untested player a big risk

Have no issue with this as I don’t think harness or Jackson are of the quality we need to challenge at the top end of the championship. If he can play across the 3 behind hirst then it provides competition for Chaplin and burns. Having said that, I’d prefer rak sakyi as he’s had more experience of first team football.

@blues1. Yes squad rules different in Championship. eg, younger players in on loan count to 25 man squad and GK’s now included. That’s why young Slicker is a decent move. Nick H goes out on loan and opens a slot. We buy CS to take his place who at age 20 doesn’t count to squad. Had CS been on loan he would have counted as I understand it.

All very well looking at clips of these players and thinking they're the next Messi but let's be honest we've had so many of these guys here on loan over the seasons that have been a total waste of space.

I'd rather bring in players in the 23-26 year old bracket who are a bit more proven.
