Blues Close in On Manchester City Keeper
Friday, 7th Jul 2023 22:38

Town are working towards finalising the signing of keeper Cieran Slicker from Manchester City, TWTD understands.

Slicker was at this evening's friendly against Maidenhead United at Needham Market but the deal is not yet done.

The 20-year-old came through the Premier League champions' youth system - where he is likely to have played under Town U18s coach Callum Tongue, a former goalkeeper himself - and had a spell on loan at Rochdale last season but was recalled in January having made three cup appearances.

Capped by Scotland at U17, U18 and U21 level, Slicker has also featured for City’s U21s in the Papa Johns Trophy.

Slicker, who wouldn't count towards the 25-man EFL squad, seems likely to be Town's number three keeper with Nick Hayes perhaps sent out on loan to gain first-team experience.

Unforgivable not to include "City Slicker" in the headline, Shirley? :)

Bought. He was at Needham. My son who is a FIFA nut knew who he was talked to him and asked if he was signing for us and got his signature. He told my son see you tomorrow.

Among our needs, keeper doesn't seem to be up there.

Is he also a striker? (Might have the next Jorge Campos here!)

Since Hayes took a place in the 25 and Slicker is young enough not to it makes room in the squad for one extra senior signing. It seems a sensible move.

Tractor boy Tommy. See you didn't read the story then? Says he'll be the number 3 keeper. Hayes will go out on loan.

Great 3rd choice keeper

Under 21 won't take up a squad place…

So happy days and won't cost much

He is coming as the third keeper. I imagine he could probably do a job as the second keeper, so that would make it possible to accept an offer if it came in for Hladky, maybe in January.

I can't help but think this isn't really a priority.
A couple up top is what we need judging by that Maidenhead game.

He will be good enough to be number 2 I imagine, coming from the City academy too means he will be good at playing out from the back. If this happens then Hladky will go I think.

Of course this is not a priority but it is deal for the future. Yes we need to strengthen our first team squad but must plan ahead as well. Criticisms and frustration with deals like this are out of place.

If some on here don't think McKenna and Ashton are looking at a striker then go wobble your heads. But it doesn't mean we shouldn't sign anyone else until we get a striker first does it!? Some people can be really narrow minded on here. Trust the process and as Ashton said there's not really been much going on transfer wise especially striker wise.

I don't know anything about him. Hopefully one for the future.

I'm sure buying a quality striker is taking a lot more time and negotiation that a third choice keeper. We must be patient and trust that a lot of hard work is going on to get the players we need. Moaning on here is pointless as is judging our current strikers on a pre season kick about against Maidenhead. I for one do not want to see any of our players risking knocks or muscle problems by going too hard in a meaningless friendly game .

The level of knowledge about transfers on here despite none of these people having a clue on who, what stage or the issues is mind boggling. Love championship manager and Football Manager but I'm
Smart enough to know it's not the real world… but like
Social media… where people assume that's reality.

At last some sensible comments. Fans reqlising we can sign for other positions than striker. The fact people think the only position we should be signing is a striker is ridiculous. This is a good signing on more than 1 count. Will allow Hayes to go out on loan, leaving him as 3rd choice keeper. But also means our 3rd keeper won't be taking up a spot in the 25 man squad, allowing us one more outfield player in thst squad. So it's a,win win situation

So naylorsrightboot don't sign any other position until a striker comes in in your infinite wisdom?? And in doing so then miss out on the other positions we also need because we didn't sign them when we had the chance because your football manager brain says so 🤣😂
