Town to Face Bundesliga Sides On Second Austria Trip
Friday, 7th Jul 2023 12:36

Town will take on Bundesliga sides RB Leipzig and SV Werder Bremen in a second pre-season trip to Austria on Friday 28th July.

The Blues are taking part in the Innsbruck Cup and will play two 60-minute matches at the Tivoli Stadion with both games shown live on TownTV with the club providing dedicated commentary and pitchside presentation.

Town take on Leipzig, who were third in last year’s Bundesliga, at 2.30pm CEST (1.30pm BST) and the Werder Bremen, who finished 13th last season, at 5pm CEST (4pm BST) with the two German sides facing one another in between.

The Blues previously played at the Tivoli Stadion in the 1978/79 European Cup Winners’ Cup when they drew 1-1 with SW Innsbruck after extra-time to claim a 2-1 aggregate victory. The stadium currently has a capacity of 17,000 and hosted games during Euro 2008.

Town fans wishing to attend can purchase tickets in a dedicated section in the East Stand, priced at €19 for adults, €14 for concessions and €9 for under-14s via the Innsbruck Cup’s ticketing partner, Oeticket.

The Blues are off for their first trip to Austria on Sunday, a week-long camp following by two friendlies on Saturday 15th July, a behind-closed-doors game against Slovakian side Spartak Trnava in the morning and against Flyeralarm Admira Wacker in the afternoon.

A list of Town's pre-season matches can be found here.

Heavy duty opposition! This instead of Col Utd. We're back!

It's good to see some tough games away at Preston and newly promoted Luton as well. I like it you're better off playing higher sides because they'll expose your weaknesses better and see where we need to work on before season starts. Great stuff

We seem to like going to Austria to play mostly non-Austrian sides.
If this is going to be shown on Town TV, we'll be needing to have some details on how the season pass is going to work pretty soon...

Can't get excited about these gimmicky 45 and 60mins nonsense. It comes to something when I shan't even look at the score. Why not have a proper game of football? I guess it's all about continuing the Americanisation and dumbing down process of the sport !!

Play some 90 minute games. Where have all these silly times for games come from ?

Well, I had hoped for somewhere a bit closer than Austria, but that is certainly exciting opposition. Should be good for player development to see what two top-level sides are like.

Chepstowgreenandyellow what planet you on?? TWO 60 minute games against top class opposition including one champions league outfit and you see it as a negative. Christ have we got yet another season of yours and blue boys negativity can't wait 🙄 plus we have 90 minute games against Luton who are in the prem and Preston away 🙄

Don't pay much regard to pre season friendlies it's just to get the players fit. These games look tough on paper but they won't be playing there full sides they'll be chopping and changing as we will that's what these games are for.

Well, it's finally some good luck for me. Not only is it 3 hours down the road; but I also have the time off to go see it. Plus summer is great in Austria, so it's watching Ipswich play followed by camping next to a lake. What's not to like?
People may complain about preseason gamesmini tournaments abroad... But they forget that it gives a chance for fans abroad to watch the team play, which didn't get to happen very often.
