Everton Yet to Make Decision On Simms
Tuesday, 20th Jun 2023 15:48

Everton are reportedly still to accept any offers for striker Ellis Simms.

As reported last week, Simms is among the strikers the Blues are eyeing as they look to strengthen ahead of their return to the Championship with other clubs also keen.

According to The Athletic, the Toffeemen will be looking to raise cash during the close season with a decision on Simms expected to be made soon but with no offers yet having been accepted.

Simms joined Everton at 16 having spent time with Blackburn Rovers and Manchester City as a schoolboy.

The 6ft 3in tall frontman was loaned to Blackpool in January 2021, then a year later moved to Hearts in Scotland for the second half of the following season.

The Oldham-born striker signed for Sunderland on loan last season and made 14 starts and three sub appearances, scoring seven times, before being recalled at the turn of the year.

For his parent club, Simms has made three starts and nine sub appearances - all in the Premier League - scoring once, in March’s 2-2 draw at Chelsea.

A new number nine - or perhaps two - is likely to be well up manager Kieran McKenna’s summer wishlist with loanee George Hirst having returned to his parent club Leicester at the end of the season.

I know you can't go too much on a video but Simms does look exciting and quite a unit.

I wouldn't read too much into delays, they are going through a takeover themselves and decisions will be routed through more layers than usual

What we don't want is for this, or any other transfer in come to that, to develop into the prolonged pursuit of Hirst last summer, which ended in failure at the time. The resulting panic buy of Ahadme on the last day of the window was a complete waste of time and money.

Better to move on if we can't do a deal now.

It's obvious McKenna is looking for players of championship quality and Simms has definitely got that. Doesn't seem like we will bid for Hirst which makes me think McKenna might not feel he's up to the faster and physical pace of the championship.

We don't need this dragging on like last season, then nothing comes of it and we panic buy like we did with Adheme and Camara. We need to move on if the club in question is hanging around not making it's mind up.

Naylorsright boot. Camara wasn't a panic buy. Was,some1 we were after from early on but we were waiting for his injury to clear up before signing him
Unfortunately as it turned out, there was an issue thst hadn't been picked up, hence he didn't get to play

blues1: He was injured when we bought him. We knew that. Has never been fit since. It was 100â„… a panic buy. They were hoping it would clear up, it never did.

I would still prefer Hirst but if Leicester drag their heels on whether they want him or not we need another option (or two!). Personally I think we can do better than Simms.

I suspect that Camara was a known risk. We knew that he had a medical problem, but he was in an important position for us and we took the view that the medical problem could be cleared up. It wasn't, the bet went wrong.

Linkboy13.. how can we know whether we will or won't bid for GH? (MA won't go public). And since we don't know, how can we speculate on whether KM does or doesn't think he has Championship potential? To me GH certainly does have Championship quality but the bigger questions are (a) does LC want to sell him and (b) does he have EPL potential and if not would we prefer someone more likely to have - which Simms may. Anyway in MA and KM we trust…

Camara had a major operation while at Plymouth and they knew he was a risk and decided to cash in on him. He's now had 2 further operations on the same injury so it looks like they are being proved right. I fully expect him to be fit for preseason training if not alarm bells will start ringing.. Mark Ashdon has done a great job in bringing in some excellent players to the club but hasn't always got it right and is not some sort of god that some people think he is on here.

Naylorsleftfoot. Read what I said. Yes he had an Injury at the time of signing g, but one that was expected to be clear soon after. But then something came up which led to an operation being needed. But can't be described as a panic buy bcse he is a player we wanted all along. Whereas ahadme was def a panic buy bcse our other targets hadn't come off. Whether Camara turns out to be a good signing or not remains to be seen of course. If he is now clear of that injury, I suspect he will be a very good player for us. Else, may just turn out to be one of those that hasn't worked out.

Ndiaye or Tella would be better invested money in the transfer bin?

Simms would have been a good buy if they hadn't increased the price.

Just a late thought but if we are in the market for Simms is it possible that Nathan Broadhead could have some influence in persuading him to sign. Broadhead must surelty know Simms from his Everton days and possibly they have played togrther?
