McKenna Delighted For El Mizouni
Friday, 5th May 2023 16:51

Town manager Kieran McKenna says he’s delighted for midfielder Idris El Mizouni, who has enjoyed a brilliant season on loan with Leyton Orient, helping the East Londoners to win the League Two title.

The Tunisia international carried off the Players’ and Manager’s Player of the Year awards at Brisbane Road having become a firm favourite among O’s supporters.

The 22-year-old, who is contracted to the Blues until the summer of 2024 with the club having an option for a further season, was also named in the EFL League Two Team of the Season.

“Delighted for Idris,” McKenna said. “He thoroughly deserves it, he’s a great lad, a really good professional and he deserved to go out and play this season, and he’s shown everyone some of his capabilities in having a fantastic season.

“We’re all delighted for him here and looking forward to catching up with him now over the summer.”

Also among those out on loan has been Corrie Ndaba, who has spent the second half of the season with Sunday’s final-day opponents Fleetwood.

“He’s been in and out of the team a little bit and played some games at centre-half and some at left-back,” McKenna said.

“He’s had some good games and then on the other hand not as many games as he would want.

“That’s a process for us at the moment as well, catching up with the loan players and speaking to them about summer plans and reviewing their seasons and what the next plan might be.”

Also on loan at present Joe Pigott at Portsmouth, Gassan Ahadme back at Burton, Matt Penney at Charlton, Rekeem Harper at Exeter, Elkan Baggott at Cheltenham and Tete Yengi with Northampton.

Some critical decision making and organising to effect very shortly . The future looks bright but K M and MA will together be objective ,and have to set aside emotion as they compile a suitable squad for next season .
Many futures to be decided , budgetary implications to be considered ; and we must sadly probably expect some changes which will on the surface ,at least , be unnattractive .
It's a new challenge ,a different platform and probably more testing demands , both physically and mentally .
SM hinted at the players acceptance that change and strengthening was to be expected : it's to be seen what that means ,but all at ITFC have earned our respect ,and will I'm sure work determinedly .

Suffolkboy I am sure that they will reach decisions that are best for the squad and the club, I can only see us keeping Baggott out of those named, but as you say we will have to wait and see. A new challenge awaits in the Championship and I think we have mostly purchased Championship quality players this season. Exciting times ahead.

algarvefan, I don't know about Tete Yengi, but I'd also expect them to keep Idris El Mizouni, at least giving him the chance of a preseason, but the rest he will probably move on fairly early on.

As great as Humphreys was in occassional appearances, he was inconsistent when asked to play every week. I don't see him as a regular starter in the Championship. Idris is probably ahead now, being four years his senior, and with a year's success at Orient under his belt. I'd say let Hump out for a season's loan (he'll return massively improved), and give Idris a chance to sniff around the first team instead.

What a great thought it is that all of the many squad and recruitment decisions for this summer and moving up to the Championship are going to be made by such a good management team and such a good manager. Happy days!

Idris is definitely ahead of Cam, but that doesn't mean he's a player in the long term. Cam will go on loan to L1 or L2. I have my doubts Idris will be with the club next year, but let's see. I don't see how he cracks our 18 or how a year in the U-21 team will help him.

Ndaba really took a step back after such as great season the year before. Let's hope we can get him a good loan and back on track next year.

Baggott couldn't crack the Cheltenham 18, so it should be a L2 or perhaps L1 loan again for him.

The rest can leave, but we'll have a hard time finding a buyer for Rakeem given his contract so guessing he'll be on loan again next year.

Don't know much about Yengi, so can't comment, but I'd only keep El MIz and Baggott. The rest, I'm afraid, would have to go.

I expect El Miz to return to Orient for a season in L1.

Baggott might stay, or might be better off getting regular games again in L1, he's still young.

Don't know much about Yengi either so another loan, Pigott will leave, and there may be others who go out on loan.

Really don't get why some think idris is ahead of humphries? Hes he's had a good season, but in lge2. While Cam has played regularly for a,spell in lge1. And played well up until he tired a bit. Would expect
Cam to go out on loan for sure next season, but would expect idris will be sold. Dont see he has a future here, with the midfielders we have here and any we may add in the summer.

Mizouni couldn't get a game when we were a much weaker team so can't see how he's ahead of Humphreys who contributed a lot more in terms of creating and scoring goals in a much stronger team. McKenna will assess Mizouni in pre season to see if he's improved significantly to be included in the squad but i very much doubt it. Don't know if Orient have the finance to buy Mizouni but my guess he will go out on loan to Orient again although he's really impressed this season and somebody else might come in for him. There will be be three or four new players coming in so i expect Humphreys to go out on loan if he can develop physically i can still see a big future for him at Ipswich.

As ruthless as this sounds we are at a point now that if players don't have Premier League potential they will need to be moved on. We have an existing core with championship potential already so to get into that group they will need to be better
With funds available I would expect all to move on this summer, Cam H will go out on loan, the rest haven't been able to show me enough to make me feel they have the star quality needed at PL Level.
It's a tough message but that's the reality IMHO
