No Give-aways - Royle
No Give-aways - Royle

Town manager Joe Royle says that Town will not be giving away their players during the January transfer window despite the difficult financial position.

Royle says he has had no bids but that he is as aware as anyone of the current financial circumstances: "There will be no give-aways. I have no offers currently on the table, and that suits me fine. It is a mix of fear at having to sell and being realistic over the money situation.

"The chairman spelt out the rather grim financial position at the annual general meeting and there is no hiding from that.

"The well-being of the club must come first. The bottom has dropped out of the transfer market and there is a recession in football.

"Ideally I want to improve the squad, but I knew what the situation was when I arrived at Portman Road."

Various players have been linked with moves away form Portman Road over recent months (see TWTD Rumour Mill for more details).

Royle will be sticking with Richard Naylor at Portsmouth on Saturday, although it will be interesting to see who he plays alongside him. Pablo Couñago, with 11 goals so far this season, has been Royle's first choice at home but he is so far without a single away goal.

Chris Makin may return after his hamstring injury while Jim Magilton is a doubt with a groin problem and missed Tuesday training.
