Town Request Additional MK Dons Allocation
Wednesday, 1st Feb 2023 13:50

Town have requested more tickets from the MK Dons for the Saturday 25th February fixture at Stadium MK having sold out the initial allocation of 3,860 seats.

Last season, the Blues took 6,850 to the corresponding fixture, almost certainly the club’s biggest ever league travelling support.

The club is hoping to confirm whether their request for additional tickets has been granted soon with seats initially going back on sale to season ticket holders as the previous allocation sold out during that priority stage. A new date for general sale will subsequently be confirmed.

Wouldn't it be good if we could beat last year's total of 6,850? Hopefully MK will give us sufficient tickets for everyone who wants to go. Seems like their average attendance this year is circa 8,000. There's more of us than you... COYB!

Not to be picky but we took 10,000 to the San Siro in 2001 and over 7,000 to Amsterdam for the Uefa Cup final in 1981. I was at the Uefa Cup game and best estimates were between 7 and 10,000. John Motson calls it over 7,000 in his highlights commentary so don't be misled by Wikipedia. I need to get a life 😀

"the club's biggest ever LEAGUE travelling support.
I was in Amsterdam as well, one of the best days of my life

Bluebass: Phil is very clever with his headline/report: "league travelling support ".
Yes, I was at the UEFA cup final second leg too, bit upset when we tried to get our supporters to spread out more across the stadium, we had so much room but itfc supporters were being too well behaved to more out of their allotted area.

Doh!! Well spotted. It was a fantastic experience and brilliant weather from what I remember. Seemed like we took over Amsterdam that day and, as Runner says, impeccably behaved. AZ fans were a bit iffy afterwards ... my friend was attacked and got their scarf nicked. Still have an AZ T shirt somewhere. Still fits perfectly of course 😉

ITFC58, Bluebass: I should have got my name as Runner 58, I guess we are all of a curtain age, great times, I was at Wembley too, plus both home & away Texaco Cup in '73'.

I went to Amsterdam too for the 2nd leg. There was a supporters special ferry from Harwich to the Hook. I think it was the St George. Lots of alcohol consumed on board, a party atmosphere but no trouble at all. The captain commented later in the press that he was amazed there wasn't even a broken glass. An amazing trip and great experience in the old Olympic stadium. TWTD…..

In my opinion the stadium at MK Dons is a much nicer one than the San Siro in Milan. At least the former has toilet paper which the latter did not !

Also, from TV highlights, looks like they gave SWFC a lot more than what we've currently been allocated, so I'm sure more to follow. Also, I seem to remember a lot of people going to FA Cup games at Nottingham Forest and Luton in the early 1980s.

Yes the Olympic stadium was bit of a concrete jungle and characterless. We stayed in Rotterdam for a couple of nights. Not much going on in Rotterdam but found a decent Bar where you paid by means of a tab. The locals were playing some sort of poker game with cards I'd never seen before i got roped in and proceeded to lose around 20 gilders i hadn't really got a clue what i was doing. Because of the smallness of our squad that season a number of the players who played were carrying injuries Alan Brazil i know for a fact was know where near fit.

Our away support really has been remarkable over the years. My first experience was the 73 Texaco cup final at our rivals ground. Between 12-15,000Town fans were estimated to have travelled and I certainly have happy memories celebrating with the masses on the pitch as Mick Mills held aloft the trophy. Can imagine how angry I'd have been if it was the other way around at Portman Road!! Next up, was the 75 semi final at Villa Park when 25,000 of the blue army had the all terraced Holte End. My last away game was the EUFA cup game in Milan with up to 10,000 making the mid week trip but really doesn't compare to the other two that I've mentioned for enjoyment as the Italian police made it as unpleasant as they could!

Will be interested to see what they give us, we were limited to just under 7000 last year plus those who went in their end, but they were chasing promotion and didn't want to be outnumbered, this year they are chasing money and that end can hold 9000
