Town to Host Burnley in FA Cup Fourth Round
Sunday, 8th Jan 2023 16:10

Town have drawn Championship leaders Burnley at home in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

The clubs have never previously met in the FA Cup with the only cup match between the sides an October 1977 League Cup third round tie which Town won 2-1 at Turf Moor.

The teams last faced one another in the Championship in 2015/16 when Town won 2-0 at Portman Road, while the game in Lancashire ended in a 0-0 draw.

Overall, the Blues have won 19 games between the teams - including that League Cup tie - with 11 ending in draws and Burnley winning 13.

Yesterday, Burnley won 4-2 away against AFC Bournemouth in round three with Anass Zaroury and Manuel Benson both netting a brace.

The Clarets, who are managed by former Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany, are currently five points clear at the top of the Championship having taken 56 points from 26 games.

Fourth round ties will be played over the weekend of January 28th. The Blues' home game against Accrington Stanley will be rescheduled as a result of Town progressing beyond the third round for the first time since 2009/10.

Any tie at home is good and let's face it, Burnley will most probably be a Premier League team next season. So let's test ourselves against the championship best and see how we shape up. Looking forward to it.

Fancy our chances ? - then tell our Players to start watching Man' City - especially the final third and the backup play …. !!!
Simple - Pure Football, doesn't need to be complicated at any level.

Great draw. First off it's a home tie. Then, a game which we stand a chance of winning but moreover a great test for our squad against a very good championship club.

Not a chance in hell that's going on tv. Tv only care about premier league sides.

Ideal draw in my opinion. We're not going to win the cup, let's be realistic. We've tested ourselves against a struggling Championship side and come through it with flying colours. Now we get to see how we cope with a top Championship team, perfect.

Expect it to be a high-scoring game as both teams are the top scorers in their respective divisions.

A very tough test. Burnley are playing very good football atm and are odds on for promotion to prem. Suspect the best we can expect is to hold them at home, but little chance away. Line-up will be interesting, but impressed with starting 11 yesterday.

Not a glamour tie and won't be on TV!
We beat a near the bottom championship side now let's see how far or near we are to a top championship side!

Just being at home in the 4th round is enough to make me inspired. I dare say that Burnley are far from chuffed with the draw.

Two ridiculous comments I've seen in the last 48hrs...one from Chris Sutton and one on here...no prizes for getting it correct btw.

I haven't seen a lot of Burnley but by all accounts a very similar footballing philosophy to ourselves so should be a very good game!

But time to get some real momentum in the league starting Saturday!

I had a dream prior to the Rotherham game we got knocked out of the cup at the quarters so fingers crossed for this and the fifth.

Burnley are an impressive side under Kompany. This will be an excellent test for us and a great opportunity to progress.

Yes, it is the ideal test to chart our development as a club. It won't be on television though - unless it is the recorded highlights!

Pleased it's at home. One of the few that wants us to win, but would gladly trade a cup run for automatic promotion!

Another tie where both teams have bigger fish to fry if either side name a weakened team they could get battered . No seriously i expect at this stage of the competition both teams will field a fairly strong line up. Expect a crowd of around the twenty thousand mark.
