McKenna: A Couple of Players Here Today
Saturday, 7th Jan 2023 19:54

Town boss Kieran McKenna has confirmed there were two prospective new signings at today’s 4-1 FA Cup victory over Rotherham, Nathan Broadhead in addition to George Hirst.

TWTD reported at half-time that Hirst was watching the match from a box ahead of a proposed loan move from Leicester, but McKenna, speaking in his post-match interview with BBC Radio Suffolk, confirmed another player was also at Portman Road.

That man was forward Broadhead, for whom the Blues have agreed a £1 million fee with Everton following the 24-year-old’s recall from his loan spell at Wigan yesterday.

Asked whether the club’s bid for Broadhead had been accepted, McKenna said: “I can’t confirm anything on bids. There were a couple of players here today who we’re in discussions with but absolutely nothing’s confirmed yet, so until that point it’s up to the clubs to notify you on that.”

McKenna commented further on the situation with Hirst in his press conference with the written press.

If both complete this would be a real statement of intent. Whittaker too would be amazing.

Would LOVE McGuinness here. A bloody good defender, Whittaker ? I'm not so sure now. He's thrown a bit of a tantrum over being recalled hasnt he. So clearly wouldn't want to come here ( could we trust him to buy into our dream ?)

Please get a defender in . We are crap at the bs k whenever we're seriously challenged .

Arnie M. McGuinness just played his last game for Sheff Wed.
The best centre back in L1 has been recalled back to 130m in debt Cardiff City.

Nomore4.Mcguinness the best defender in this league? Really? U didnt see him playing for us when he was here tgrn. Average at best. And even if hes improved since then, and is as good as u say, we couldn't sign him anyway, assuming hirst and Broadhead sign. Dont have the space in our 22 man squad for that.

Mcguiness has been brought back to Cardiff as they need help and can't buy anyone due to the transfer embargo. He's surely unlikely to be sold?

Blues 1. Widely acclaimed what half season he has had.
He was a kid from Arsenal academy when here….now a man and very good player.
Blues 1 we are allowed to move out as many and bring in as many players as we like.
I expect players to also leave….don't you?

Blues1 And yes I've seen Mark McGuinness at Portman Road when he was a kid playing for us. Stepping up from academy football straight into L1 all handled very impressively.
I see a Cardiff game on tv last season which he got MOM. Playing the whole season in the Championship, but loaned out this because of Cardiff financial issues.
Watched him V us this season and he looked impressive. Massive loss for Sheff Wed. Would be massive coup for us.

Mcguiness was also player of the month for Wednesday in November and December, would be the icing on the cake if we managed to get this over the line.

Atty He's now back at Cardiff. Hopefully to come here.
But big loss for Sheff Wed either way.

It's been a fantastic window so far….watching our 2 main rivals get weaker and lose their best players. Replacing with unproven cheaper alternatives.

Posted this on another thread, but saw someone mention Whittaker on here too...

I've got a theory on Whittaker. All things considered, he was very happy at Plymouth and enjoying his footie. What do we offer him that's any better? Not much... and he's certainly not guaranteed to start and would likely be rotated.

I reckon this is gamesmanship from Ashton, showing some buying interest in him to get Swansea to recall him. Wouldn't it be fortuitous if we were playing them mid-January and we had the ability to rattle some cages and get him out of the picture...? Plymouth have mentioned there's still a chance that he'll come back before the end of the month whilst his future is being sussed out.

With Hirst and Broadhead coming in, I can't see us taking a third striker/AM, especially when he was getting everything he needed in Plymouth. Could be wrong, but worth posting a conspiracy theory! :D
