Hirst Still in Blackburn's Weekend Plans
Friday, 6th Jan 2023 09:55

Blackburn Rovers head coach Jon Dahl Tomasson says striker George Hirst is in his plans for his side’s FA Cup tie at Norwich City on Sunday “at the moment”.

As reported yesterday, Town are in discussions regarding Hirst joining them on loan from parent club Leicester City for the second half of the season.

The 23-year-old’s recall from Rovers has been widely expected given his lack of opportunities at Ewood Park with the Blues having hoped to have had the deal tied up before now despite other clubs having also shown interest.

Tomasson, who was linked with the Blues during George Burley’s time as manager, says as things stand Hirst is in his thoughts for the trip to Carrow Road.

“At the moment, yes,” the former Danish international told the Lancashire Telegraph.

TWTD revealed the Blues’ interest in Hirst in May last year and the striker remained a Town target all summer but ultimately signed a new three-year contract with the Foxes before joining Blackburn on loan with that deal including an option to buy.

However, the one-time Sheffield Wednesday trainee has made only three starts and eight sub appearances without scoring.

Get some goals against Norwich and then come to Portman Road next week, perfect scenario.

I think that we should move on from Hirst now, don't think it will happen, we need to get Broadhead in, sign Whittaker and Corbeneau

Don't let this run and turn into a saga as in the summer if in a week not done go elsewhere personally he don't convince me anyway with one good half a season

Whittaker will not be coming to Town as that makes 3 strikers we are trying to sign

If the lad didn't want to come in the summer and this is stalling at the moment (not going at the pace town hoped ie to be done by now), it sounds like he's not that keen on coming at all...
Not sure we want someone here who thinks they better than playing for our club...

"blackburns weekend plans" sounds like pretty minor affair in the great scheme of things.....

Karlosfandangel. Whittaker isn't a striker. He's a no10 or can play wide.

My god. Some fans on here, talking as if this been going on for weeks, as it did in the summer. It hasn't. If it should drag on then yes, I'd agree, we should forget it. But not yet. As for fans saying, go and get goals against Norwich then sign here? Why? He'd then be cup tied should we get through tomorrow.

Hopefulblue69. Who says he didn't want to come in the summer? Was more a case that Leicester wanted him to to to a championship team at that point in time. The fact he hasn't got the game time there meaning they're likely now open to him moving to lge1.
Love the way some on here are judging him before he's even signed, let alone kicked a ball for us. If indeed he does sign, let's give the guy a chance before writing him off, shall we?

Blues1, don't you just love thhe commennts that are totally unfounded from people who are eiither clairvoyants, mystics, mind readers or whatever. we don't know what goes on behind the scenes at Ipswich let alone any other club.Just like the way Jackson & Ladapo are called out nearly every time they play.
Regarding Hirst, I think so much is based on the fact his father was a pretty good player, apart from the 2nd half of last season George has hardly set the world alight.Wish it wasnt now so hard to bring in players from Europe, would love to see another Dutchman to keep the tradition going & probably raise the skill side of the team. Think Orr was our last player brought in from Holland even though he is Aussie.

We will bring in the very best available.
That there can be no doubt.
This isn't a video game……huge amounts of money is and will continue to be invested on and off the pitch.
The end goal Premier league football.
There is a timeframe for this to happen.
We are nearly 2 years in.
We will sign the best available to us.

No wonder KMcK takes no notice of social media posts. So easy to spout negativity and untruths from behind a keyboard.
