Kennedy: I'm Really Proud of the Group
Monday, 2nd Jan 2023 22:39

Lincoln manager Mark Kennedy says his players should be proud to be part of the squad which drew 1-1 at home to Town this afternoon.

Jack Diamond’s spot-kick just after the hour gave the 10-man Imps the lead against the run of play, Adam Jackson having been red-carded towards the end of the first half, with Cameron Humphreys levelling for the Blues nine minutes from time.

“They should be so proud of themselves, and we just said to them after the game, we’re really proud to be part of your team,” former Blues full-back and academy coach Kennedy told LincolnshireLive.

“I’m so, so pleased for them, and I have to make clear it’s not just the 10, 11 players that are on the pitch, it’s the whole group, it’s the collective squad that play a huge part in what you see here today. I’m really proud of the group.”

Regarding Jackson’s red card for pulling down Town namesake Kayden just outside the area, the former Irish international added: “There has to come a point where you talk about it, so just off the top of my head we’ve had Southampton away where the goal was offside and we should’ve had a penalty.

“Burton away their penalty was offside, today Adam [Jackson] shouldn’t have been sent off for that — I thought Paudie [O’Connor] had covered it really well and I was quite calm.

“The other night against Bolton in particular was appalling. One of their players has elbowed one of our players in the face, you’ve got the fourth official and the linesman stood on that side and when the ball's in play we’ve got one of our players lying flat out on the ground.

“Then for a goal to be allowed off the back of that and to be allowed to continue with 11 players, I understand how hard it is for officials, but we need some help sometimes.”

Kennedy was delighted with how his team coped with having 10 men with club captain Tom Hopper having been brought on at half-time.

“I think Tom Hopper in particular had a huge impact on the game, he came on and really affected the game,” he continued.

“Jack Diamond was outstanding, his work rate is phenomenal and he’s getting better at the out of possession stuff.

“I’ve yet to see anyone in the league that is tactically better out of possession than Ben House. We moved him to right wing and he absolutely nailed that position.”

Come on. Your team are bobbins. When they start playing football, come back and say you're proud of them. How is Teddy Bishop gonna get to play in a team like that who don't want to create anything of class

Well, all I can say is, if Lincoln fans are prepared to put up with backs to the wall defending and draws most home games then good luck to them. I'm just glad not to be one of them.

What a load of flowery drivel. Nobody who has a passion for the sport would be proud to be part of that style of play and unsportsmanlike behaviour week on week. Woeful team suited to non league. Hoooooooffffff!

Lincoln coped better with the sending off than Ipswich
The big number 9 came on and created problems, his presence ultimately led to the corner that led to the penalty.
Our Substitutions made little impact and probably took us backwards, who knows about the illness we were facing- I know Chaplin crossed for Humphries
A man extra - why not put some one extra in the box for crosses? - stick Burgess up or even Greg Leigh who looked a danger in the first half, it would have at least got him out of crossing duty.

Some strange comments on here? Let Mark Kennedy be proud of his team with slagging off the club, they've come a long way on I'd assume a shoestring, took 4 points off big club Ipswich this season.
Also, as many alluded to, some of the negative comments on the match report above are just embarrassing, some even suggesting we might not even make the playoffs.... cop on please. Yes, it was disappointing not to win, yes, we need a proven goalscorer, yes, we need to cut out silly mistakes at the back, all fixable.

Strange you say substitutes had no impact, I thought Chaplin and Humphries played well, and they combined for the goal.

I think he has answered that very well. He loves town and will never slate us that's why when asked about the penalty he said no it wasn't and then went on about other games so not having to say negative about town. Yes I am worried about number of draws but we will definitely be to six and still favorites for top 2. More than a striker we need to learn to beat the teams with a defensive line of 11 or as in Lincoln for more than half the game 10. That is a tactic we will rarely face next season in the championship

Im totally in agreement with LimerickTractorBoy, all credit to Lincoln they suffered a ridiculous sending off, tried to go toe to toe with us before it and defended resolutely afterwards.
Whilst I am desperately disappointed not to have won we dominated yet again, I would be hugely proud of my lads if I was MK.

Thanks Bazza, as with all social media I suppose you have to take the rough with the smooth, Ipswich are far from the finished article but some on here predicting a possible slide to midtable and others calling for KMcK to be sacked is incredible on the back of 2 away draws with alot of sickness in the squad is plain daft.

Any old fool can set up a team in an ultra low block, run around a lot, kick it into the channels and time waste as much as possible.

Look at Rob Page.

Total blue. Know the feeling. Had a virus for over4 weeks now.
Think he maybe he has a point on the red card but also it wasnt a penalty neither. Just 2 more poor decisions by a referee in this lge.
