Evans Closing in On Return
Monday, 12th Dec 2022 13:38

Town midfielder Lee Evans hopes to be back in action on Boxing Day following his knee injury.

The 28-year-old suffered the knock during the 1-0 home victory over Derby County at Portman Road in late October.

Having made a return to training at Playford Road last week, the Welshman now hopes to be fit enough for some involvement against Oxford United on Boxing Day.

“It's going well,” Evans said of his recovery while working as co-commentator for iFollow Ipswich during Saturday’s 2-1 win against Peterborough United.

“It was a frustrating period to start with, I was in a knee brace for four/five weeks, I had a few injections and just had to let it heal.

“But now I'm back on the grass with the fitness team, working well and just hoping to be back out there as soon as possible. Hopefully in another couple of weeks I'll be there or thereabouts.”

Manager Kieran McKenna revealed at his press conference on Friday that Evans was back training.

“He’s back on the grass and working hard,” he said. “Not with the group yet but he’s working well with the rehabilitation coaches, so that’s all going very well.”"

Town are short in central midfield at present with Dom Ball expected to miss the rest of the season having undergone knee surgery and Panutche Camara still suffering with his groin injury.

Good to hear - we've missed him, despite now being top, we'll need him back fit and playing to maintain that position to the end of the season.

Good News,
He has good stats this year and at times him and Morsy seemed to win every second ball.
Will make players around him better.
Up the football league we go!

Despite our league position, we have missed Lee. Some of his passing this season has been sublime, and with him and Morsy starting in midfield you just feel confident from the outset. Can't wait to see him back, as well as a few of the others who are injured at the moment. I reckon we could absolutely romp the second half of the season all being well. Hope the recovery continues well Lee!

With Ball and Camara out we are short in that area so it's very good to have him back.

Excellent news, with him in the side Morsy can push up and drive us forward like earlier in the season in the knowledge that Evans is covering. Cam Humphrey's has done a fantastic job and will have benefited massively from the experience.

Totally agree with all the comments above, this guy is the glue that holds the midfield together and as well as we have managed, its been tough to expect so much so soon from Cam Humphreys.
Cam has been great, but at 19 long runs in the side in high pressure matches is a tough ask and it will be good to have Lee back. Lets get Pan fit too and start to share the workload a bit

Great news. Cam Humphreys has been fantastic in his absence but probably through no fault of his own lacks experience. COYB.

Great that we have such depth that we have been able to cover him.
There is going to be a steady flow of players returning from injury, Aluko looks in good nick again.

Thank god for that. We need him back . I know young Humphries has gone brilliantly well but I detect a slight weariness about him over recent games . It's a tough ask for a young kid week in week out. But he's stock will have risen hugely over the last 2-3 months . Good lad 👍

Great news but what an impact Cam has had to have in his absence....and he has. Felt Cam was noticeably a little more reserved on Saturday, but that might just be having another older head around the place in Sone, but he was so solid regardless; we are so lucky to have him. Getting Evans back before January helps with transfer window decisions and allows another unenforced option to be considered if Lee can get and stay fit....which helps us again.

Brilliant news and a real boost going into a period with important games coming thick and fast. Despite the excellent performances from Cam Humphries the experience of Lee Evans will be a massive boost and we know that when Cam is required again (Morsy's next suspension!) he will not let us down.

Evans has been a big player this season and worlds apart from the last one. Most improved player imo so to get him back for the new year is simply massive.

That is good to hear. Humphrey's has been excellent and may well lose his place to Evans but in truth the business end of the season, on not quite so good pitches and opposition teams fighting for their place in League One, I do think we need the strength and experience of Evans alongside Morsy.

Both Morsey and Evans way to good to be playing L1 football.
Although the best and most exciting midfielder we have hasn't even got really involved yet.
Camara get fit soon.

Great news to get Lee back before the new year.

And to know we now have another excellent back up in Cam to come on if required is very comforting. Well done Cam for what you have done so far and I am sure you will have some important contributions before the season is out and we have won the league.

Very key player for us. I still expect us to strengthen in this area with Ball out for the season. Camara injury is a concern.

The Camara situation worries me hope its not a case that he needs another operation and he's out for the rest of the season.

Will be great to have him back. As well as Cam has done( and he has been great), he doesn't give you that protection in front of the back 4 that Evans does. That, and the fact, that with Evans in the team, Morsey can get forward more. Could always play Humphries higher up the pitch too, I think, in one of the number 10 roles.

I'm convinced we're going to add in January. Morsy will have more bans. Camara and evans May struggle all season with injury. Harkness injured, John-Jules injured. I also think when you're winning is the best time to strengthen (we've had success when doing so and failure when we didn't) but I have no idea who as most signings made by the current ownership have come out of the blue! It's exciting to think we might add to this winning side! But great to have players like Evans and Aluko back!
