Buxton Cup Date Set
Thursday, 10th Nov 2022 15:43

Town’s FA Cup second-round tie against National League North side Buxton at Portman Road will be played on Sunday 27th November with a 5pm kick-off for live broadcast overseas.

Although the match wasn’t one of those picked for live coverage here when they were announced yesterday, it is among those being screened abroad.

The Blues defeated Bracknell Town 3-0 at Bottom Meadow on Monday, while the Bucks beat Merthyr Tydfil 2-0 in their first-round tie.

Earlier this week, TWTD caught up for former Town midfielder and current Buxton assistant coach Tommy Miller, who was delighted with the draw.

Miller is also among the guests on Saturday's Life's a Pitch on BBC Radio Suffolk (midday-2pm).

Having spoken to friends I would imagine Ipswich will lose a minimum of 66% of fans attending now. Perhaps a poll on here would be a good idea to see how people feel.

Norwichbeater. Dont think you know 60% of town fans do you? Very much doubt the crowd will be any lower than it would have been anyway, as its not on tv here. And might even be more than it would have been on the Saturday, with a train strike on the Saturday.

Works for me! not sure of the drama here on this, after all easier to get to than a midweek game. The Buxton fans won't have to take time off in the week to come to the game! I will be there, chance to see us win a second FA cup game in a row, when did that last happen.

On another note, we will probably have to get used to more obscure kick off times as we get more successful.

Absolute joke. No thoughts for fans. Especially the Buxton fans. What a ridiculous time

According to this it's a Chinese company who have bought the rights. Which makes even less sense as this now means it's on at about 2am for them!!

"Online video platform Bilibili has acquired broadcast rights for the FA Cup in China. Coverage begins with the tournament's second round and runs through the conclusion of the 2023/24 campaign. As part of the deal, matches will be streamed live on a FA sponsored channel for free."
