McKenna Nominated For Manager of the Month
Wednesday, 9th Nov 2022 08:38

Town boss Kieran McKenna has been nominated for the Sky Bet League One Manager of the Month award for October.

The Blues won five and drew one in League One during the month, picking up 16 points out of 21.

McKenna, who was previously nominated in August and April but so far without carrying off a gong, is up against Peterborough's Grant McCann, Darren Moore of Sheffield Wednesday and Plymouth's Steven Schumacher for the award.

The winner will be announced on Friday with the judging panel comprising of former Barnsley boss Danny Wilson, Don Goodman of Sky Sports and Sky Bet EFL trader Ivor Davies.

Who cares? This is just an inconsequential byproduct of the main theme, that of a team firing on all cylinders.

October was a bit of a mixed month.

On the positive side, we won five League matches.

On the negative, we lost at home to Lincoln, threw away a two goal lead against Charlton and lost to Cambridge in the EFLT.

I'd rather see him holding the League 1 champions trophy at the end of the season.

@BobbyBell - he/we are allowed to have both, its not a choice.
I dont see recognising a quality Manager is against being a decent squad who wins the league/ promotion - they work together. His performance wont suffer for it.
Award recognition is meant to boost confidence not deflate it.

Think we can safely say done by the ref at C/B main thing Camara got minutes and we can see what a gem Cam Humphrey's is going to be, but hell yes give it to Steve Schumacher Kieron can have the big one along with manager of the month in January, February, March,&April🍾🥳followed by a big Trophy and the Fa Cup

Would be surprised if he got this, it's not been his finest month, whilst certainly not an awful one. A lose at home to Lincoln and the crazy Charlton game do not scream MotM award. Reckon he's making up the numbers of nominees on this one - Schumacher should probably get it.

Wait hold the phone! So his piers see him doing a fantastic job for yet another month I don't understand because the minority of fickle fans on here say he isn't!? Congratulations Kieron yet again it shows that you ARE doing a great job and the clubs moving in the right direction as MOST of the true fans and those with a little bit of football knowledge realise and know. 👏🏻

BeattiesBackPocket - he's certainly doing a wonderful job. Who's suggesting he isn't?

Phil, didn't we win five, draw one and lose one, or is that just what the mainstream media want us to believe?

Jugsy. So you think the players losing the plot at ghe end of the charlton match is down to mckenna? Really. And how was he supposed to prevent that, without going psychic, knowing it would happen. And the lincoln game? A game we totally dominated, but got caught by a sucker punch? Is that down to him too? Sometimes you have to blame the players for these things, not the manager. In what was a busy month with some hard games in there, I think he's done a great job. And fully deserves this nomination. Would prefer him to miss out tho, with the managers curse that almost always follows such an award.

He deserves all the praise as a young rooky manager. He has demonstrated calmness, dignity, respect, intelligence and bravery. This is quite rare in this day and age for a young manager. Hope he gets the award. I don't believe in all this curse nonsense.

blues1 - the players go out there to implement the plan the manager lays out. Of course, once they get out on the pitch there's a limit to his influence. However, there have been a few occasions now where we've gone ahead and been pegged back (Sheff Weds, Barnsley) or even lost (Plymouth), so it's not the first time as a group they've shown poor game management which he is responsible for improving in the team.

Along with the Lincoln result which McKenna we'll surely bear some responsibility for and because we've also lost ground on the league leaders, I'll stick with the view that it hasn't been his finest month.

I don't think October is a fair reflection of how good McKenna has been, he's had far better months as our manager so I maintain that this doesn't stand out as month where he should get Motm. I certainly felt he deserved it at the start of the season, think it was August. Schumacher on the other hand has only dropped 2 pts and pulled away from us, so my money would be on him.

Just get nominated every month and then get Manager of the Year at the end, that will do nicely.

Blues1 you're fighting a losing battle with a minority on here. For some strange reason a minority on here expect instant success and 5-0 results every week. Fact is the club from top to bottom has changed for the better since the old owner and guard left but Rome wasn't built in a day and there will be odd games here and there where we don't perform or get freak 4-4 results. People need to stop moaning when we are sitting in automatic places after only a year or so of new owners, management etc

Joyousblue and BeattiesBackPocket - who's moaning? Repeated mention of moaners, I must be missing it. I'm certainly not moaning. Just saying McKenna's had better months which are more worthy of recognition.

Unlikely to get it over Plymouth's manager but for judgement, clarity of thought and decency he would get my vote for PM !
