Fleetwood Switches to Friday
Monday, 24th Oct 2022 17:05

Town’s home game against Fleetwood has switched to Friday 2nd December with a 7.45pm kick-off to avoid a clash with an England or Wales World Cup fixture.

The match was scheduled to take place on Saturday 3rd December and has been moved due to a potential clash with a round of 16 World Cup tie involving either England or Wales.

Town have already had one Friday night match at Portman Road this season, last week’s 1-0 victory over Derby County.

That'll be a bummer for the Fleetwood fans who were gonna come.

Love an evening game, better for the atmosphere but not so good for those fans travelling from afar.

Good Old FIFA
There are 2 2nd Round World Cup games that day KO 15.00 and 19.00 so probably not much choice - but making this choice 6 weeks before the date when the draw has been known for months ...
Sorry-old man finding something to moan about syndrome ?

For anyone who cares - The new dates clash with Serbia v Switzerland and Cameroon v Brazil
Second round of the FA cup (dare I dream) would coincide with Tunisia vs Australia 10.00, Poland vs Saudi 13.00, France vs Denmark16.00 and Argentina Mexico 19.00
If we get to the third place play off - well that clashes with Wycombe away

Not impressed. Bought my train ticket down from Scotland just this week. As you say MickMillsTash, the WC draw has been known for ages ....

I don't mind this,in the main we tend to play well under the lights.
Feel for those who may have already made other arrangements though.

Could be the lowest away attendance we have had at Portman Road for a few years.
No disrespect to Fleetwood but I cannot see why this game has been picked for TV coverage.

They might make one of them a TV game as Sky have no prem or WC games

Although not a scheduled Sky game, they are to blame for the total disruption of kick off times. I am old enough to remember when every weekend fixture kicked off at 3pm on a Saturday or 2pm in the winter before floodlights arrived. Fans knew exactly how to plan their weekends and all of the teams gained any advantage about knowing how other teams had performed.
This affects fans everywhere. I see from the Sky fixtures just published that there is a game at 8pm on Boxing Day. Bad enough for fans trying to get there but how do they get home afterwards. There are also our wonderful away fans who are now being subjected to 2 games in Devon with 12.30 Sunday kick offs. Either leave home at around 3am or cough up even more money for a hotel.

Some measured comments here - unlike on FB - if we are lucky enough to get to the Premier League one day there really will be fixture disruption

Not happy about this. Another trip up A12 on Friday night!! What with high train fares I've got no choice but to stay at home.
