Pilgrims and Owls Drop Points
Saturday, 22nd Oct 2022 17:38

Plymouth and Sheffield Wednesday both dropped points from League One’s Saturday fixtures.

Leaders Argyle were pegged back from two goals in front at Bristol Rovers with the game ending 2-2.

The Owls went ahead at Lincoln early on but the Imps levelled just after half-time.

Town are now two points behind the Pilgrims in second and three in front of third-placed Wednesday.

Behind them, Peterborough won 2-1 at Oxford, Portsmouth claimed all three points via a 1-0 victory at Forest Green Rovers and Bolton came from 2-0 down to win 3-2 at Accrington Stanley.

Elsewhere, on-loan Blues defender Elkan Baggott scored his second goal in two games for Gillingham as the Kent side drew 1-1 at home to Barrow in League Two.

Bring Elkan back, we need someone who can score from corners 😊

A good weekend. More concerned by Wednesday and Portsmouth than Plymouth.

Important to win against Port Vale

Its a simple equation now, one game at a time, keep winning, keep putting pressure on those around us (almost all of whom don't have our resources) and it will be done.

It's now 25 or 26 corners in the last two games. Surely we should be scoring from at least one of them. Port Vale will be happy to give corners away based on our record. Sorting out some routines from corners is a must as we don't have anyone who is dominant in the air. If we could be a real threat from corners and free kicks as well as open play we would be unstoppable.

Pleased for Baggott scoring. However he did have a pass percentage of 46% which doesn't fit with our model, also gave away a penalty.

Apart from when we play them, we can't affect our rivals' results. Therefore important to focus on what we can affect - old cliche, but one game at a time; take nothing for granted, respect the opposition. But impose our game, be relentless, maintain concentration, secure the points. Move on. Repeat.

Totally agree BobbyBell. Set plays have been a serious weakness at both ends of the pitch for sometime.

A friend who sits next to me at PR told me that statistically only 4% of goals are scored from corners. I thought it would be a lot higher. Guess our stat would be even lower. Certainly we need to sharpen up on free kicks though. Evans blows hot and cold with both free-kicks and corners and I would rather see both Davis and Chaplin involved.

Just had a look at midweek fixtures. We are the only team in the top seven to be playing away from home so a win essential to prevent others squeezing up. I'm sure we can then it's Charlton, at present unbeaten at home, on Saturday so tough and important week coming up

The most important result is our own result. If we keep winning games we'll be in the mix. Plymouth for me are the strongest team but they rely on loanees and have a smaller squad

Home crowds on the whole won't tolerate teams sitting back and defending a nil nil. I can see town being as successful if not more successful sway from home against the mid and lower table teams.

Not surprised rovers got a result against Plymouth. Crowd seemed well up for that one.
