League Clubs Agree Cap Thursday, 21st Nov 2002 17:13 The 72 Football League clubs have agreed to introduce the salary cap proposal put forward by a working party headed by Queen's Park Rangers chairman David Davies. The clubs voted overwhelmingly for the introduction of a 60% cap on players' wages, although no dates have as yet been proposed for the cap's introduction. Ultimately the plan is to reduce wages to 50% of a club's income in future seasons. Davies explained the proposal: "We're not saying any individual player will have his wages capped, but we are suggesting the collection of the players can't be paid above a certain level. "We are looking at a pot of money that is so large that no player in his own right is going to be able to demand that kind of wage. "But when the club has reached a collective upper limit, it can turn round and say 'we're not going to push ourselves too far'." Town's representative at the meeting was chief executive Derek Bowden.
