Burgess: Surgery a Success
Thursday, 22nd Sep 2022 21:12

Blues central defender Cameron Burgess says the operation on the facial injury he suffered in the Bristol Rovers match has been a success and has posted scans pre- and post-surgery.

Burgess, 26, was accidentally caught in the face by Pirates sub Harvey Saunders in the 62nd minute of the 2-0 victory just over a week ago.

The former Accrington man went to hospital on the night of the game, then saw a specialist later in the week before undergoing the surgery, which he revealed on Twitter has been a success.

As my dear late uncle (the reason I'm a Town fan) used to say, never trust a centre-back who looks as if he's never had a broken nose...

Get well soon CB. That is a horrific injury. Had his face been hit much harder he could have very easily died. Thank goodness for the medical people and modern surgical techniques.

Can see the urgency for the surgery. At least doesn't have to wait years for 'elective' surgery.

They should definitely put his face back on, however.

I had a similar incident when an amateur player. I slid in to make a tackle, just nicked the ball & the sprinting attacker's knee struck me flush on the temple. Team mates thought I'd broken my neck, but although I was knocked out, there were no physical injuries. At half time I had no idea who my team mates were, but played the second half with double vision (we didn't have a sub). Fortunately, no long term damage & I don't think I've been concussed since.
Hope the club is cautious about Burgess's rehabilitation & recovery.

My brother got a similar injury playing Rugby. He said that he was completely disoriented when it happened. Only later he realised that as his eye socket had been broken , his two eyes were pointing in different directions!

Had simular, from the top of my eye sockets smashed through to my jaw on left side ,all rebuilt, he'll be fine after a few months.
No need for the pins to be removed either, if anything his bone structure will be stronger after this .
Get well soon 👍
