McKenna Misses Out on Award
Friday, 9th Sep 2022 09:00

Town boss Kieran McKenna has missed out on winning the League One Manager of the Month award with Portsmouth’s Danny Cowley carrying off the gong.

McKenna was nominated alongside Cowley, Plymouth’s Steven Schumacher and Sheffield Wednesday’s Darren Moore.

The Owls’ Liam Palmer won League One Player of the Month, while ex-Blues loanee Richie Wellens has been named League Two Manager of the Month.

I think it shows we are expected to be at the top whereas it's an achievement for Pompey!

It's probably a fair outcome.
For all our enthusiasm about our great start & how KMcK carries himself, Cowley has at least matched him thus far. Identical records in the league, but on paper they have had a tougher set of fixtures, having played both Sheffield Wednesday & Peterborough already. Their fans had been really worried about their forward options even before we recruited Harness from them, but Cowley has done well in bringing in Colby Bishop & Dane Scarlett, who have both settled in immediately, not to mention our own Joe Pigott (so I won't)!
On a smaller budget he has put a very strong looking side together there, who will score a lot of goals & be a real challenge to us over the coming months.
Whether they have the strength in depth to exploit the 5 subs rule so much, or to deal with injuries & suspensions to key players might be another matter though.
The award itself, like most awards these days, is pretty much meaningless though.

Agree with you, Len. We need to be judged after the Pompey game in the first week of October as by they we would have been through 3 of our toughest fixtures for the season. And to be fair to Pompey, they are performing above expectations so well done to Cowley.

Perfect. Too early for plaudits. If McK gets it for September then we are talking !

With Town and Wednesday being the two title favourites, my nominations, based on exceeding expectations, would have been Portsmouth and Cambridge United.

Delighted. Being Manager of the Month always seems to put the mockers on things.

Good! The further under the radar we can keep him, the better!

It's not a curse…. Sorry to be statistically rational… it just isn't. It's as significant as putting your left sock on before your right sock. However rationally Cowley was better by GD over August. I'm glad he didn't win it just so the superstitious idiots don't get any oxygen. It's as stupid as thinking there are ghosts or a god… that takes some lack of thinking.
