Blues Working on Deal to Sign Plymouth's Camara
Thursday, 1st Sep 2022 14:37

Town are hoping to complete the signing of Plymouth Argyle midfielder Panutche Camara before this evening’s deadline.

According to Football Insider, the Blues have had a £500,000 offer accepted by the Pilgrims for the Guinea-Bissau international and TWTD can confirm Town are looking to sign the 25-year-old before the transfer window closes at 11pm this evening.

There is still work to do and the deal is not done but it's hoped Camara can be one of two players unveiled by the Blues today along with Burton striker Gassan Ahadme.

Having played youth football in Portugal with Loures and Vitoria de Guimeraes, Camara joined Barnsley’s U23s before signing for Dulwich Hamlet early in 2017.

The versatile central midfielder moved on to Crawley that summer and spent three years with the Red Devils before he joined Plymouth on a free transfer in the summer of 2020.

Camara, who is 6ft 1in tall, has made 82 starts and 13 sub appearances for the Pilgrims, scoring 10 goals. He is yet to feature this season due to a groin problem.

Capped four times by Guinea-Bissau, scoring once, Camara was made available by Plymouth at the end of 2021/22 having turned down the offer of a new contract.

The Pilgrims subsequently took up a one-year option on his previous deal which runs to next summer.

I think secretly McKenna knew we weren't strong enough to compete for the top two spots and i see this as strengthening the team rather than the squad. Can see one or two players going out on loan.

His club took up the extra year option after the player turned down a new contract.
Sounds familiar!

Nice! Great energy and willing to run with the ball. Could cover any of our midfield roles. May release Humphreys for a League 2 loan move.

Well, I know nothing about Camara. £500k is quite a fee for a lower league player with 1 year left on his contract. If Paul Hurst had signed him, we would be saying "What?" McKenna has a better record, but I'm wondering what position he is going to play.

Liked this player alot when I've seen him play if be very happy if we get this deal done and hope his injury isn't to bad to stop it. Big strong lad box to box different to what we have. The transfer Windows ain't so boring anymore loving my club right now 🚜💙🚜

This guy can be awesome on his day. Just hope he isn't far off fitness if he has been out since the season started.

I would be happy with this signing (as well Ahadme). He was one I thought we might have been interested in when he turned down the contract offer & was made available. I thought he'd be a free transfer at that point of course, so £500,000 would be a sizeable outlay in the circumstances.
We will be considerably stronger if we get these 2 in today.

Another player I've been fortunate to play against us and think 'he'd be handy in our side'. Only thing I didn't like about him is that he LOVES whinging to the ref as the merest touch from another player. Very pleased about this one. Didn't Plymouth have an issue with him a while ago, trying to force himself a move?

With what we now know of Mark Ashton and how he operates in the transfer Market, I severely doubt the figures being quote for Camara or Ahadme are correct (that high).

Equally have no doubt that these have both been thoroughly vetted and are not a snap reaction to (e.g.) Sone's injury. Great biz if these get done, and yet I still have a suspicion that a number 18 may yet make a return....surely better with us than Charlton !

Ah, apologies Len_Brennan, I missed your comment about Camara's contract. That's what I was trying to recall.

I'm guessing that we've been waiting to complete the Simpson deal to free up cash for this one. Otherwise I can't see why we didn't get him in earlier in the window? Unless they were waiting on his groin injury to heal up more.
From the clips he has energy and nice footwork skills as well as being big and strong. I think he can do a job in Midfield alongside Morsy, Evans and Ball and gives us something different from these.
Happy if we get this one in… and with Ahadme should give up more strength in depth.

Half a million in the coffers for Simpson and allegedly Camara in at the same price. I would say that is good business. Camara is proven at this level. Simpson could turn out to be a bargain but I don't see it. He might disappear into the ether like many other of our supposed bright talents.
We seem far more switched on these days with our business dealings.

Camara is very similar in height, size and strength to Bakinson, but from what I've seen of Camara he has a better touch and control and is more comfortable on the ball.KM obviously decided not to go back in for Bakinson ,maybe because he had the better player in Camara lined iup all along.

Today's two potential signings would appear to fit in well with the team profile desired by KMcK when he first arrived. Tall, athletic and apparently strong. Both also have League One experience which will no doubt be nurtured to Championship quality over the next six months.
If both deals go through then Samy Morsy and Conor Chaplin will feel like they are living in the land of giants

What a midfield four that is with Ball and now hopefully Camara both coming in. Ball was the best player on the pitch on Tuesday by a country mile. 4-3-2-1 is fast becoming a realistic alternative. It looked like we switched to a back four on Tuesday. I can't honestly remember looking forward to Saturday afternoons so much. COYB
