"Proud" seems to be the word on everyone's lips at the Club the day after going out on penalties to Slovan Liberec. Joe Royle said he was proud of the team and used the cliche so befitting Town's situation saying "this does give us more time to concentrate on the league".

"There is a great spirit in the camp and a lot of bonding. The boys have a willingness to work hard and the signs are good, although we have got to become more of a threat in front of goal. This is something we will be working at.

"The referee was poor to say the least, although I don't want to say too much or I might get in trouble. There was very little that I could see he did well and with a different official in charge we may well have come out of the game with a better result."

Hermann was a little more verbal in his description of Edo Trivkovic, the referree last night. "Call him what you want, a joke, or whatever. Every time I went up for the ball he was blowing to penalise me before I got off the ground. He did us no favours at all, but there is nothing we can do about that. We are out of the UEFA cup but not disgraced."

Thomas Gaardsoe, who was commended by Joe Royle after the game as being a "rock" in the defence, is optimistic things will now turn around and see them do better in the league. "I am absolutely gutted", he said, "but we gave our all. I thought we were a solid unit and I think the spirit that we are putting together can only set us in good stead for the challenges ahead.

"We look forward now to the match at Watford on Sunday in the league. I think you will see our team rise up the First Division table very quickly."

David Sheepshanks also saw the improving team spirit in morale and said, "we now have the fighting qualities that we had two years ago. We can go on from here and become stronger and stronger under the leadership of our new manager."
