Hirst Set to Join Blackburn on Loan
Tuesday, 30th Aug 2022 19:28

Leicester City striker George Hirst is reportedly set to join Blackburn Rovers on loan.

The Blues spent much of the summer chasing the 23-year-old frontman with a view to signing him on a permanent basis, however, last week it emerged that the Foxes are keen to tie him to a new deal and send him out on loan to the Championship with his current contract up next summer.

Now, according to Football Insider, has been at Ewood Park today to undergo a medical ahead of a loan switch.

TWTD reported in July that the Blues, who had had at least one offer turned down by Leicester, were facing opposition from Championship clubs, primarily Blackburn.

While continuing to maintain a watching brief regarding Hirst, Town have turned their attention elsewhere more recently as they look to add to their squad before Thursday’s deadline.

Elsewhere, former Blues loanee Macauley Bonne is again being linked with a return to Portman Road from QPR with Shrewsbury and Bolton also said to be keen.

As reported previously, Bonne has been among those on the Blues’ list of potential striker signings this summer with QPR manager Michael Beales having said the West Londoners would be prepared to allow him to move on this summer.

Town appear to be aiming to sign two players before the window closes with a striker looking the priority.

Ahh well.
We move on.
Not too fussed.
I gotta be honest I'd happy with Bonne.

Disappointing. Hopefully we have a plan B. A permanent signing. It's really nice that we have just one loan. Someone who helps the squad. We don't want three or four.

A lot of talk regarding Bonne. Seems more likely now. He will need to do a lot better than his one goal since November.

Bonne is a strange one. Did really well then suddenly seized up. Needs a bit of a confidence boost, perhaps. Could well do really well for us if he can be the player we had at the start of the season.

Marcus

Agree I think Bonne had other things on his mind when the goals dried up.
100% effort but not on his game as early in the season.

Hope we don't panic buy a striker but get someone who can get us goals now and in the Championship.

Would rather sign Bonne. He would always give 100% and has proved he can score goals.
Yes he dried up dramatically but his early season haul last year is still far more than I fear some of our current ‘strikers' will score this year.

Your right cakeman, but tbf the service the striker has been getting so far this season in the 3 games I have watched has been practically non existent.
Would love to see a 3 - 5 - 2 system given a go as imo the players we have, it is screaming out for this system.
Got to say, I thought it was brilliant when kmck came in and said there was no rigid system and we would play a formation to to suit our opposition. So far I have seen virtually none if this.

Not fussed by this. Is he any good? I'm not sure.
Not sure Bonne is the answer though.

You lot do realise we've scores 12 goals in six games and have only dropped 4 points so far... and against Bolton and Barnsley prob should have won. WHO CARES WHO SCORES!!!

I'm not too disappointed. Hirst has proved nothing and I suspect their is more value in League One. Smith (Cambridge) and Ahadme (Burton) would really suit our system. Ahadme a perfect no.9 and Smith able to play in a 2 or as one of two 10's.

I know we are all focusing on a striker, however Town are scoring goals, not sure if this system the lone striker will get 20 a season.

It seems they are there to press the back line and pull defenders out of position

I'm not convinced he's going to be that big a deal if we got him. Not saying he isn't a good player but is he worth the money it would have cost when I think we have enough to get promotion even if we don't add to the squad? We already have a squad full of players who are top level in this league. Another striker would be useful but Hirst isn't the be all and end all. His record at this level is ok… but at 23 he should have been pulling up trees for Pompey.

We are not far off. Cutting edge and we stand a very good chance

I don't think our system suits an out and out striker.
Last night against Northampton really showed how we play with 2 no 10's and play through the lines.
It's like when Eric Gates played that role, the central defenders don't know if to come out of the back line or the full / wing backs to play narrow.
We now do it with a 10 on each side though, creating space on the opposite side when in procession.
Aluko ran Northampton ragged last night and hope his injury isn't too serious.
