Accrington Chairman Hits Out at Morsy
Saturday, 22nd Jan 2022 19:02

Accrington chairman Andy Holt has hit out at Town skipper Samy Morsy following a clash with Stanley midfielder Ethan Hamilton during the Blues’ 2-1 victory at Portman Road this afternoon.

The Egyptian international and Hamilton clashed as what was a niggly game all afternoon approached the half-hour mark with the Stanley scorer going to ground holding his face but with referee Geoff Eltringham taking no action.

Afterwards Holt responded on Twitter referring to the Town midfielder as “a shit house”, while former referee Mark Halsey suggested Morsy could face retrospective action.

Following the Blues’ 2-1 defeat to Stanley earlier in the season, Morsy was critical of the approach to the game taken by the Lancastrians.

“They’re a horrible team, they play like a non-league team, and that’s no disrespect to them, that’s just the style and it works for them and we just couldn’t quite get to grips it in the second half,” he said.

“I thought the first half was OK, they’re horrible at what they do, they didn’t really create much, as we didn’t. Two goals, we could have done a lot better but it just wasn’t our day today.”

He added: “The way they play is disgusting. I think one of the players just kicked the ball out of the stadium [in order to waste time], I’ve never seen that before in my career. But we lick our wounds and we go again.”

Morsy was shrugging off the Accrington player's arm, clearly doesn't even hit him in the face. It's embarrassing how he goes down like he's been hit by a bus. Brenner even called it beforehand in commentary saying Accrington were going to try and get Morsy in the book. Glad the ref didn't fall for it.

Retrospective action should probably be taken against their chairman in fairness. Shouldn't be calling a footballer a ‘sh*t house' in his position, even if it was warranted.

Luckily, the likes of myself are not in such a position. So to Andy Holt, shut up you delicate little snowflake.

FFS..Morsy can be a bit nasty at times, but to me this is more or less nothing. Their player goes down like he´s been shot.

Andy Holt is a complete JOKE!! How can he complain with his CHEATING bunch of a sh*te team!! If we had a proper referee today at least 2 or 3 of his dirty team would have been sent off. They could dish it out but went down like a sack of sh*te when we put in a tackle.

It did make me laugh that their 6'5 centre mid was blown over by a 5'7 tom Carroll.
They are a dirty team, we ended up giving as good as we got, and I got no complaints about that!

Morsy took the first armful and then gives a little back!!! What do they expect! The dirtiest team, spoilers, always trying to break the game up and have confrontation! I warned my 13 yr old son what they were like and he witnessed it this afternoon! Non league football and kick and hope. What about the two Ipswich town players who got flattened with no cards given. GROW UP ACCRINGTON AND STOP MOANING. YOU LOST TO THE PRIDE OF EAST ANGLIA! COYB!!!

Morsy clacked him and the bloke went down like a sniper had taken him out….bearing in mind the sh!thousery from Stanley I thought Morsy was immense and just what we needed today…his best game for me…

Their chairman sounds classy calling Morsy a 'sh$t house' - does anybody in a position of authority use social media like this?

The guy runs at Morsy with his arm up, Morsy reflexively raises his arm, huh goes down like he was hit with a missile.

Jog on you tossers

Johnwarksshorts, I'm sure Lady Hamilton wouldn't have gone down like that, even in the company of Lord Nelson.

This is why we need players like Morsy and Norwood in the team. Getting in people's faces and making it tough for the opposition are what gets you over the line in L1.

Nothing in it. Not even a yellow.

But it annoys me that the Quest highlights decided to highlight this incident. Hate the way cheats get their way in football.

I think Morsy could find himself in hot water. Regardless of the way Accrington conduct themselves you just can't do that and expect to get away with it in the modern game. I'm expecting to hear more about this in the not too distant future!

It would appear that Accrington's chairman shares the same lack of class as his team.

I don't give a damn what opposing chairmen, managers or players say after a game, but I do worry when the media is reporting on the incident, calling it a definite red & former refs saying that he should have gone. I think we can expect Morsy to be given a retrospective ban after this & as he did clearly connect with Hamilton, there would be no chance of a successful appeal. We would have been better off had the ref given him a yellow card at the time, but now there will be an assumption that he didn't see it properly, so action can be taken.
For what it's worth, I thought there was very little in it & Hamilton is clearly acting, but he did raise his hand & connect and if we are honest, there is a zero tolerance against such acts even when they are innocuous. We've seen 'em given.

Good management today not starting Nors
They would have wound him up and probably got him sent off
Need him to be fit and available

Back in the 70's we used to call out ‘Dirty Leeds'. They were a bunch of fairies compared to this Acc Stan team. Unfortunately dire standard of refereeing in EFL lets thugs get away with this

The standard of the 'pundits' on Quest is very poor. It is time they hired so called experts who are knowledgeable and respected in the world of football. Perhaps their views could then be taken seriously. At present just a joke. Who are these people anyway ?

There was no punch! Morsy just stiff armed him to get him out ofvthe way! Not even a second! Holt is just a sore loser in the hear of the moment

problem is Morsy and Norwood are always dicing with trouble and push their luck, that is well known and other teams can wind them up , it could prove costly. I just wish they would rein themselves in . Norwood will run length of pitch just to add his pennyworth and get booked .

We have had far too many lightweights in our team in recent seasons so we need players like Morsy and Norwood with a bit of fight to compete in this league.

Having said that, incidents like this one are judged in isolation, the referee doesn't think ‘oh well, I'll let Morsy off as Accy are such a dirty team'. If he had seen it differently, Morsy could've been sent off, we could've lost the game and it would leave us short in the centre of midfield with Evans injured. Fine margins but I'm glad the decision went our way

As I.ve said elsewhere, it was a gentle slap, no more. The way Hamilton went down I thought for a minute there might be a sniper in the Magnus stand. Bunch of cheating a*seholes, deserved what they got. My only disappointment was that Norwood wasn't sent on much earlier to give them a bit of their own medicine.
