Hessenthaler on Town Job
Hessenthaler on Town Job

Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler has responded to claims that he is amongst the legion of managers in the running for the Town job. Hessenthaler described the Blues as a "massive club."

According to the official Gillingham website Hessenthaler is the name many Blues' supporters are calling for (?), although the man himself was previously unaware that he was being linked: "I haven't seen it, but it's nice when you are linked with a club like Ipswich because they are a massive club.

"It shows you can't be doing too bad. Ipswich are a very big club, they have just come down from the Premiership and are in Europe.

"So to be linked to a club like that is nice and it must mean I am doing something right.

"But you get loads of rumours going around. Look at the Ronnie Moore situation — it looks like that has turned out to be a hoax call, which is scandalous.

"After the game on Saturday it was all geared to him going to Ipswich. I feel sorry for Ronnie because he's a great character and doesn't deserve that kind of thing happening.

"But it did happen and now he has got to try and get on with his football.

"As for me, I'm concentrating on getting three points tomorrow and to keep working hard for Gillingham Football Club."

Player-manager Hessenthaler took over at the Priestfield Stadium in June 2000, taking his side to a creditable twelfth in Division One last season. This time around they are thirteenth, one place above Town.
