Town Linked With Late Morsy Dash
Sunday, 29th Aug 2021 11:21

Town are being linked with an ambitious late window move for Middlesbrough midfielder Sam Morsy, who captained Paul Cook’s Wigan and Chesterfield sides.

According to the EADT, Town have begun discussions with Boro regarding the 29-year-old, who was shown a straight red card late in yesterday’s 1-1 draw with Blackburn, ahead of Tuesday's 11pm deadline.

While Morsy is a regular for the Teessiders it’s believed the Egyptian international could potentially be available at the right price with manager Neil Warnock having a number of midfield options.

Early in the window, Morsy began following Town on Twitter leading to speculation that a reunion with Cook might be on the cards.

Defensive midfielder Morsy was a youth player with hometown club Wolves and Port Vale where he made his breakthrough into senior football.

Cook took him to the Spireites in July 2013 and helped them to the League Two title in his first season, before he joined the Latics for a fee of £200,000 in January 2016 prior to the Blues boss taking over at the DW Stadium.

Morsy helped Wigan to the League One titles in 2015/16 and under Cook 2017/18.

While a Latic, Morsy spent time on loan at Barnsley and joined Boro in September 2020, signing a three-year deal.

Town’s interest in Brighton keeper Walton, which emerged earlier today, is also said to be further progressed than initially claimed with talks reportedly advanced.

Bedsitfc. That is just typical of how hypocritical some fans are. Have been moaning for the last 10 years that Evans wasnt spending enough money. Now we are, moan that we trying to buy the lge. And btw, when u take into account the fees weve brought in, weve spent very little anyway. But even if u pay a lot of money, you still have to go out and win it. Dont u think weve suffered enough years of under investment, and so we're perfectly entitled to be spending now?

Why do people criticise Cook for buying players whove played for him before? All managers do it. They do it because they trust those players and they know what they're capable of.

I've never understood this fascination many managers have with signing former players. I feel to some degree that it's a character weakness. Imagine if Pep or Tuchel took that approach.

Cant believe some of our so called fans!! For years we have been getting in Rubbish and at times desperate signings/ players past their best, these 2 would really complete the jigsaw!

I was lower than a snakes belly after yesterdays result, so i get disappointment totally, but i dont get the total negativity!!

Blues1 - the reason Cook his being criticised for buying ex-players is that we were supposed to be using scientific data for our recruitment (announced 1.4.21 i believe).
Now after the first 5 games, it is clear that we are not the fittest team in the league as was Cook's intention as we seem to be hitting a wall after 65-70 minutes.

I have no problem with the players recruited. Most seem ok and a couple are struggling which is about right for any level of recruitment. What i am concerned about is a complete lack of a plan B, no assistant manager and the level of experience the other coaches have.

I said he would have 10 games so this is a half time report. Lets hope for some luck, a decent ref and some consistency throughout 90 minutes.

A tough tackling midfielder is exactly what we need now Downes is gone. Looked good whenever I've seen him play in the Championship or for Egypt.

Come on guys lets give cook a break. Ive said all along he needs a no 2 for tactical reasons. Ie the last half hour of all games so far. Also he has spotted just like us fans we need another keeper and Defence midfielder so come on guys and gals hes trying his best. When we put a few wins together things will look different. Lets not blame cook totally as his players are letting him down a little. He gets 15 games from me before i shout cook out. Lets all stay calm and stick together. We are getting what we wanted now lets give our team what they wantA LITTLE TIME. 10 more games before we start to get panicked. Super blues forever 💙

We do still need a keeper and defensive midfielder but why? It's the end of August, we've played five league games and PC has already signed 16 players.
