Town Eyeing Wigan Midfielder Evans
Saturday, 3rd Apr 2021 12:49

TWTD understands Town are eyeing a summer move for Wigan Athletic central midfielder Lee Evans, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

Evans, 26, was taken to the DW Stadium by Blues boss Paul Cook on loan from Wolves for the 2017/18 campaign in which the Latics carried off the League One title.

That led to a £750,000 move to Sheffield United, then in the Championship, but after a year with the Blades Evans returned to Wigan on another loan in the summer of 2018 before the switch was made permanent the following January.

Evans had been released by Bristol Rovers as a 15-year-old and joined hometown club Newport County where he broke into the first team when only two years older in 2012.

In January 2013, Wolves paid a reported £200,000 for his services and the four-times-capped Wales international went on to be a member of the side which won the League One title in 2013/14 season.

He featured in the Championship during the following campaign but spent 2015/16 back in League One with Bradford before returning to Wolves for the next season, prior to joining Wigan for his first loan spell.

It’s expected that there will be plenty of ins and outs at Town in the summer with 26 players currently out of contract and as new boss Cook looks to make his mark on the squad.

Diesel Morris at least we agree on your point of sarcasm on this site not to mention the amount of cheap jibes from self appointed experts and as for Blueaction please do me a favour !
But as for standing in the corner of the North Stand come on, I spent season after season in the middle of the North Stand with only a thin Blue line of Police between Town fans and marauding hordes of visiting supporters. No segregation and an occasional crush when things got exciting.
No doubt if Blueaction was about then we would have had a protest and a few pretty banners !

Well if PC thinks he can do a job that others in this squad are failing or struggling to do and if this guy played a big part in Wigan's title win under PC, and if this guy has done reasonably well at Championship level, and if this guy this season is consistently scoring an average above 7.0 out of ten according to the sofa score view of stats for a team struggling in this league, then that says to me THIS IS EXACTLY THE SORT OF PLAYER WE SHOULD BE INTERESTED IN. Oh and I presume PC will think from the above he will be ideally suited to the system he wants us to play.

And no over to the dullards to add some more thoughtful insight, like he didn't grow up through the Barcelona youth system!!!

Obviously PC is well aware of this guys strengths and weaknesses. We do need some muscle in midfield and he and Downes could provide it allowing Bishop to focus on getting forward. In this league Dozzell seems to be something of a luxury unfortunately however he has time on side to develop physically and hone his tackling and heading...... coyb
