Palace and Leeds Eyeing Woolfenden
Saturday, 14th Mar 2020 17:00

TWTD understands Crystal Palace and Leeds United are the latest clubs to have run the rule over Blues central defender Luke Woolfenden.

The 21-year-old has been one of Town’s top performers this season and has caught the eye of a number of sides from higher divisions, most notably Premier League high-flyers Sheffield United as well as Championship QPR.

Palace, currently 12th in the top flight, had Woolfenden watched as the Blues were beaten 2-1 at Blackpool a fortnight ago, while the Whites, top of the Championship as things stand, have also been keeping tabs on the former East Bergholt High School pupil.

Woolfenden is contracted to Town until the summer of 2022 with the club having an option for a further season.

I think Palace would be a very good choice for him. Like them or not they do know how to play and keep in The Premier league.

The boys barely kicked a ball for us and he will be gone. Can't blame him. I keep telling myself things can't get any worse, but then sadly I know they will.

Both he and Downes will move on in the next transfer window. The bigger questions are how much for and how much will be reinvested into the playing squad?

I could see him going to Leeds.
He'd fit in well.
Hope it doesn't happen mind you.

Why do most of you on here think is so good he will be sold. The main thing football teams higher up the leagues do is pass the ball out from the back and he does not do this very well at all. Lately he's been hopeless. We concede goals regularly is it really all chambers's fault?

Everyone would useless when they have to play with Chambers. Not only does he have to do his own job he has to do Chambers job aswell as Chambers never marks anyone!

Wolf is a decent player but imo too early to think he will be that special, I am less impressed now than i was initially, Dozzel another one . You have to be realistic and accept players will want to move up in their career. Its a situation we will have to get used to now.

Good luck to the lad. We will not be able to hold onto any half decent players for a while.

Better prospect physically than Downes not yet ready for premier league. I can see him being signed by a premier league club and then going out on loan to a team in the championship. As for signing Conner Wickham don't think we could afford his wages plus he's been injured for about 2 years i think we are well covered for injury prone players.

jas0999. One valid question. How much will he be sold for?

The other question probably doesn't need asking. I'm imagining the answer to be 0%-5% of it. Mainly on wages or loan fee...

We are 10th in division 1....so why do you think most of our players are good enough to play higher when they can't even get us into the top 6 let alone the top 2. Bishop, Woolfenden, Downes, Huws, Dozzell, Sears, Norwood, Garbutt and Judge to name a few?

tractorboybig added 07:37 - Mar 15
adeblueboy surely the real problem is the dickhead of a manager. we could have 11 premier league players here and he would still f**k us up.

adeblueboy: Just to make it clear, we're 10th in DIVISION 3 not Division 1 as you have put [guess you meant league 1], as for Woolfy & Downes they are both 'young talent' for the future, will be nurtured and matured into top class footballers which I think they are both capable of.
It's a fact of crap league 1 football now, we've dropped down a league, we've dropped a league in players, officials, grounds, the whole cooking lot! I really hate to think where we'll end up, I really do.
