Chambers: It Felt Like We Got Through a Psychological Barrier
Thursday, 20th Feb 2020 17:33

Town skipper Luke Chambers says it felt like the Blues overcame a psychological barrier by impressively beating Burton Albion 4-1 at Portman Road last weekend. However, he knows he and his team-mates have to follow up that result when they host Oxford United on Saturday.

Prior to the victory over the Brewers, the Blues had previously gone four games without a win, losing the first three of that quartet.

“Only time will tell, but it felt like we got through a psychological barrier in some ways last week,” Chambers writes in his column for this weekend’s match programme.

“There were a lot of nerves around the place. Everyone at the club knows what is at stake and it was a game that we needed to win after some disappointing results.

“It’s no good performing like we did last week, though, and not following that up. That’s what it’s been like recently, doom and gloom one week, great buzz the next.

“The league is crazy because there is no real consistency and that is why you have seven or eight clubs fighting it out at the top. There is no standout team.

“We are only five points off top spot and things can change in a matter of a week. We’ve got to keep going and see where it takes us.

“We have 12 games left and if we finish the season like we started it, we will go up. It’s as simple as that.”

Getting rather tired of being told what we have to do now. Just go out there and do it. Spend as much time practicing as you do giving bloody interviews and we might be alright

Can't disagree with any of that. Confidence is huge in sport at any level, another good result on Saturday and who knows?

Let there be expressions of joy when we see undoubtedly a great display !!
Why oh why do fears and despair and the need for negativity so dominate this forum ??
Well played everybody last Saturday ; we'd a 100 mile journey home in the most uncomfortable conditions ,but it was worth it !

Why do players get the constant criticism of some on here for saying what they do in interviews? It's part and parcel of their jobs that theyll he expected to givexinterviews at some point. And if asked a question, they have to answer it. What else are they supposed to do. Yes, they have to then go out on the pitch and do the business out there, or it does make their comments look a bit empty.

Getting through a psychological barrier would be to finally beat a Top 8 team...

Ok, so Burton weren't up for much, but it was the manner in the way we played them what counted, we basically destroyed them. We are starting to play out from the back more and through the midfield, instead of aimless ‘hoofs' down the channels. Continue like that against Oxford then we are ‘back in the game!' Roll on Saturday!

The team were very complacent when in top 2 especially the forwards and midfield (v lazy) as they thought it would be so easy. Now they've got roll up their sleeves to win enough games to even get into playoffs.
Just looking at the fixtures and can you see winning 6 at least? Somehow I doubt as other teams will be just as focused on their future whether it be promotion or to avoid the drop.

Sad to say but It is players like Garburtt, Downes & KVY etc who will make the difference in whether we make the play-offs or not. Senior players can keep doing the talking but that does not win games.

Blues1 : True, the players are obliged to undertake numerous interviews and answer when questioned but its up to them what they reply. Everyone has known somebody who is full of empty promises....it becomes tedious and eventually you lose faith in them. So in other words....

If you are gonna talk the talk, you better walk the Wark

Differentgravy, unfortunately it's not up to them what they say! Players are taught at a very early age how to deal with media and how to answer questions. They're all like robots these days, if they were all given carte blanche to say what they really want to I'm sure the answers would be much more interesting!

Yet more talk from 'proper bloke' Chambers. Until we put a good run together or we beat one of the top teams I don't wanna hear from him or any of the other players talking about what we need to do. Just go and do it ffs!

Lathers; I thought we beat Fleetwood earlier in the season, they're top 8 and if my memory serves me right they were top 2 at the time.

A good result and performance against Burton, the team picked and formation suited us. The Oxford game could prove more of an indicator, as to where our season is heading.
Let's hope for an unchanged team, and a great result for Town.

Having worked through all the top eight fixtures it confirms what I thought that the top two is beyond our reach even if we have an impressive run in. We pretty much have to win most of our games with an odd slip to have any chance of claiming automatic, not impossible but very very unlikely.

Coventry look certs for top 2, with a very close second between Rotherham and perhaps Sunderland who have hit a rich vein of form. Peterborough will be close as well. Think Portsmouth will fade a bit and even stubborn Wycombe I can't see doing anything other than slipping a couple of positions or so down the table.

Play offs therefore should be well within our grasp. If we fail here then we will have deserved no more. Our best bet would be Wycombe or Portsmouth in the play offs.

Skip73... yes we beat Fleetwood , went to that game. Going into that game fleetwood were 3rd, but yes a victory of a team in the top 8 ( even top 3)

just hope we play like we did against Burton, i dont expect us to score 4 ,but a convincing win is what is required ,a boost in moral / confidence and push on.What we dont want is that performance to have just been another one off ,false dawn. COYB .

Meh!
""I" (the player) think (insert random obvious statement) and "the team" need to do better, "the team" can do it, "we just need to (insert cliche'd obvious problem solution) and do it". "The manager" is (insert random praise), "the team (insert cliche'd excuse)."Its a tough league!", "Now we've got over (insert previous repetitious problem) we can focus on (insert next obvious shortfall)".
