Stand Pillars to Pay Tribute to Fans' Favourites
Thursday, 30th Jan 2020 12:18

Town are set to feature a Blues legend on each of the Sir Alf Ramsey Stand’s 12 pillars as part of the ongoing makeover of the stadium.

The club will be making contact with thousands of randomly selected supporters in order to select the 12 players who will be featured on the pillars which run through the concourse.

Town say they are looking for “icons, heroes, legends of the club but across the years, rather than just one era. They don’t have to be the best 12 players - just 12 fans’ favourites.”

The club are aiming to have the selected dozen appearing on the pillars before the end of the season.

I look forward to seeing the end result of this makeover.
However I do feel the that the signage of the Sir Alf Stand, inside the ground, looks tacky. I hope this is being replaced.

From the modern era, be good to see Reuser and Counago get on there.

Nice ideA! I'd go with ten really great players and then maybe two cult heroes. Paz, anyone?

Maybe bear in mind those who have won 'Player of the Year', those who were good servants to the club and those that have kept a close affiliation... My 12 would be:
Burley, Mills, Muhren, Wark, Butcher, Putney, Brazil, Mariner, Milton, Holland, Magilton & Stockwell.

@d77sgw I agree that Beattie would be one of the first names on the list - but he has an entire bar/lounge dedicated to him already (and deservedly so!).

John Wark is a must.

Have read about some of the great players, goalscorers, the 62 team etc but can can only speak for players ive seen. Plenty to choose from -

Allan Hunter
Kevin Beattie
Mick Mills
George Burley
Terry Butcher
Erik Gates
Alan Brazil
Jason Dozzell
Super Matty Holland
Bam Bam
Craig Forrest
Pablo Counago
Rolls Reuser
Magic Jim Magilton
Marcus Stewart
Tony Mowbray
Alex Mathie (when we used to beat Narwich)

Been plenty of players who talk a good game off the pitch/fans having taken to because they are 'nice'. But not been anyone for a number of years, in terms of skill or game changing ability. Woolfy and Downes could be but unfortunately they wont be with us long enough.

Criteria:
Longevity of service (rules out Reuser, Stewart for me, arguably even Muhren and Thijssen)
Distance of time (you can't have someone still playing, or who was playing in the last 5 years otherwise you lack objectivity)
Left in a respectful way to the club (rules out some that left for financial reasons - I bloody loved Bobby Petta for 18 months!)
Extra points for one of our own/still in touch with the club

Could we have another 12 pillars (pillocks) for players we hate?!
Darren Huckerby springs to mind...

I would look to our players with the most appearances, then try to pick some from different generations. So Mills, Wark, Stockwell, Cooper, Burley, Tommy Parker, Baxter for 450+
Then Crawford, R. Wright, Chambers, Holland and Phillips.
