Chambers: Home Improvement Vital
Thursday, 30th Jan 2020 11:58

Blues skipper Luke Chambers says that Town will win promotion if they replicate this season’s away form in their remaining home matches.

The Blues are top of a League One table based on away results alone having taken 28 points from 16 games but 16th on home form having picked up 20 from their 12 matches at Portman Road.

Town play 10 of their final 16 League One matches at home with fourth-placed Peterborough the visitors on Saturday.

“Our form at Portman Road will be vital over the rest of the season,” Chambers told the club website.

“We have a lot of games to play at our place but the performances against Accrington and Lincoln were good and we need to build on that.

“We looked far more of a threat in those games. Our record away from home has been good all season, if we can replicate that at Portman Road we will win promotion, simple as that.”

what it will NEED 100 % effort from everyone, not from one or two, now and again . It will take desire and fight, and goals , something we struggle to muster too often . COYB.

Every challenger has strengthened, over January.
And every time our captain says these stupid comments we fail to perform in our next game.
2 crunch games await us Chambo, over to you.

Some less predictable and more imaginative use of the pitch would be a start. Wing play and central mid field needs improving. Three up front would help keep the opposition defence properly occupied. Pressure pressure pressure is a mark of teams in the top of the premiership. We have the players to do this and get the midfield to supply them. Unless we score more goals than we have done this year to date, we will not get the automatic place. COYB be more creative and aggressive and don't allow teams to escape the pressure. For goodness sake do the unexpected.

just imagine. Wingers running to by line and pulling the ball back into the box. Cant be offside from that. Just need men in the box. Goal!

Where has this type of football gone in todays modern game ?

Got to deal with expectation, bit of pressure, in your face half decent opponents, tv and live tv, criticism, more expectation, suggestion of winning runs. When our illustrious lot can every season will end well

Talk is cheap . Its what happens on the pitch that counts. We don't have any prolific strikers so goals will be harder to come by but surely to god being positive is so simple - shoot at every opportunity -anything on target has a chance. So- called tactics / formations / etc. don't half complicate what is in essence a very simple game. We need to start beating some of the top 8 teams and I think we will on Saturday . COYB. PL & players - lets be more positive with our play.

I'll be there Saturday as per.
But it's going to need a performance of the season to beat Posh.
Tranmere, Rochdale or Southend there not.

Stupid comments from a captain who is past it. The whole team needs a kick up the back side. Bunch of fairies keep getting out muscled.

the fact that we have more home games than away should give me confidence ,but it dosnt. I cant see many points coming our way in Feb, and we will be just another team looking to make the playoffs ,. When it comes to fighting for success ,be it promotion or survival we just seem to have a team of marshmallows .

Chambo's been a great servant here- never the most gifted footballer, but honest, loyal and a born leader. Respect therefore due.

But I do get a tad weary of the PR media geeks putting players forward to help gain their degrees in stating the bleedin' obvious! COYB!😉

See CCV has signed for Luton (on loan). Think he's have been useful.

No hope of anyone comming in to Town now. All we can do is back the boys til end of season.

Anyone know roughly when KVY is aiming to be back?

Norwood has to start. Hopefully, being left on the bench has given him the kick up the backside he needed in terms of work ethic but his ability on the ball, goal scoring record and hustling defenders was for all to see in that last 10 minutes and nearly earned an undeserved point at Lumperham....i mean Rotherham.

Not sure how Huws is getting on with the knock he picked up but would really like to see Huws, Downes and Teddy.

The defence did ok against the cheating, mind numbing tactics of Lumperham, but we have to show composure on the ball......and if it has to occasionally go long.....turn the full back and force them to play it out for a throw in rather than smashing it up front for the centre back to deal with.....Keane didnt win a single header(again). Norris can help by improving his distribution.....its terrible

After every loss it's the same old interview from Chambo and I don't blame him for it it's jusy boring. Rotherhams game was abysmal no shots anywhere near goal first half have to do much better Saturday or we could get opened up like we probably should have Tuesday.

We're useless at home. Probably lose next two games and end up in eighth place come the end of the season. I have no belief in the manager, the captain or the owner!!!!

I'm not that concerned that other teams have strengthened their squad and we haven't as I believe our squad is more than good enough to get promotion as it is but they have to create more chances and have more attempts on goal. If we can pick up a few points from the next two games we then have a chance to keep pace and hopefully get ahead of the chasing pack in the remaining fixtures

Play the ball on the deck through the midfield or out wide. Don't keep lumping it aimlessly up to the front two.

Good positive steps at home in recent weeks, but overall the home form is nowhere near good enough to achieve promotion. Must do better.

With the balance of home v away games left this season - it really sits perfectly for us, BUT as much as I would like to think otherwise, unless we improve 100% and score goals I have serious reservations of even making the play offs.
I still maintain we have the squad, but with more than half the season gone, Lambert hasn't made the best use of it - and I'm still convinced he doesn't know his best eleven.
I guess we're seeing why his last success was at Carrot Road - so long ago most of us will have forgotten when, and nothing but dismissals / failure since.
People can blame lack of funds, but until he makes best use of what we have, I wouldn't trust him in spending a productive penny.
The buck stops with him - good PR off the pitch (initially anyway) - but results on the pitch are much needed to follow. That's his acid test - not Chambers, or anyone else - but his.
