Priority for Regular Away Fans for AFC Wimbledon Trip
Tuesday, 14th Jan 2020 14:02

Tickets for Town’s away game at AFC Wimbledon on Tuesday 11th February will not be going on sale in the usual way, the club has announced, with the Blues given only 700 tickets for their first-ever visit to Kingsmeadow, which has a capacity of just 4,850.

Priority is being given to fans who have attended the most away games this season with the ticket office contacting those supporters directly in order of the number of games they have attended, giving them the opportunity to buy tickets. It’s not expected any tickets will be left to go on general sale.

Seems fair. Only been to 4 away games this season, so no chance for me!

Does sort of make one wonder what on earth the point of forking out £30 for a Gold Card is. Apart from Southend it's been useless...

Well us superfans only paid £19.99 for our Gold Cards so you were mugged off!

The Gold Card gives priority, but clearly there are more Gold Card members than the capacity allows for this one. But you go ahead and have a moan, VanDusen...

Well - I hardly think it's a moan. The ticket office are absolutely fantastic and really helpful. But it doesn't change the fact that the Gold Card gives questionable value for money these days (having had a Gold Card for the last 20 seasons). It used to make a difference in the old days of ringing up, but apart from Brentford away in recent seassn it's been redundant as tix also been allocated in this way for Norwich which is the only game likely to cause a rush.

I'm all for regular away fans being rewarded and those who've been to more than the 10/11 matches I've been to deserve it. But it doesn't change the fact that the club perhaps need to think about some proper incentives for Gold Card membership: perhaps a free cup game which would be luck of the draw whether we get one at home? I mean particularly given we've been given absolutely nothing for losing the Bury game this season when I notice when I was at Portsmouth they'd been given options of a free cup game, a refund, or a donation to the Academy...

Is this not contrary to the Club's terms and conditions of Season Tickets. They were promoted with the promise that they would give priority for match tickets over and above general sale. There are fans that go to away games but rarely show up at Portman Road.

Absolutely fair.

(coming from someone who won't be able to go because of this decision)

Disappointing. I live just down the road so I'd marked this one in the diary ages ago.
Just have to hope we're in the same division as Fulham next season so I'll walk down there.

Disappointing, but fair.

Well done to the club on this one, of course it's the fairest way of selling the tickets. Anyone moaning about buying a gold card have only themselves to blame for not realising that this was going to be the situation for wimbledon (and to some extent Southend) however the vouchers and free ticket offer that comes with the Goldcard financially more than outweighs the initial cost.... Moaners will always moan!

Having attended so many away games these fans deserve their Platinum bonus.

Fair play - but I don't think many people are buying the Gold Card for a bag of crisps at the odd match and a keyring. However it's rare we'll play at a ground as small as Kingsmeadow - and definitely agree it's the right way to do it on this occasion. Will just have to go in the home end with a Dons' mate instead.

However, I do think the club might consider cup discounts as part of the package given the declining attendances. My England Supporters Travel Club membership gives me a fiver or more off tickets which has persuaded me to go to a few home matches I otherwise might not have. A fiver off home games fpr members whether we play Man U or Mansfield might help get the gates up again. Hell - imagine if we had a cup run one year?!
