U23s Come From Behind to Beat Charlton
Monday, 6th Jan 2020 15:41

Levi Andoh, Armando Dobra (pictured) and Kai Brown were on target as Town’s U23s came from behind to claim a late 3-1 victory over Charlton at Dartford’s Princes Park this afternoon.

The Addicks took the lead in the 32nd minute via Junior Quitirna and were ahead at half-time.

But right-back Andoh - making his third appearance for the U23s and his first since signing an 18-month contract on January 1st - levelled as he opened his Blues' account on 64 and Town went on to win it in the final minutes with Dobra and Brown grabbing the goals.

The Blues’ U18s are in action on Tuesday when they take on Colchester United in Professional Development League Two South at Florence Park (KO midday).

U23s: Przybek, Cotter, Andoh, Ndaba (c), O'Reilly, Dobra, McGavin, Hughes, El Mizouni, Morris, K Brown. Subs: Bort, Fehrenbach, Foudil, Gibbs.

If Andoh played right back, where did Cotter start?

Well done U23s!

@ itfchorry, agreed. I'd very much like to see Ben Morris given more of an opportunity with the first team. What I've seen of him I've been impressed and I think he's well worth a proper look.

Would love to see dobra in the 1st team, think him and also el mizouni are going to be decent players. Good to see the youth production mill still running. Coyb

Agreed, I rate El Mizouni too. In fact I'd have him and Dobra starting. They would create openings. Dozzell can pick a pass and I think he'd look better with better quality players around him. But often games seem to pass him by. I know Bishop is back but I'd tempted to gamble on El Mizouni and Dobra in the starting 11 ahead of Bishop or Dozzell. My only concern (as with Dozzell) is they might struggle a bit with the physicality of League One and all three need to build up some. But players have never had as much referee protection as they have in the modern game so there is that in their favour. However, some of the referees in League One are woeful. I thought some of the Championship referees were bad but it seems the lower down you get the worse it gets! We've gone 12 games without a win and we're struggling to register shots on target and create openings. Therefore I would think it's time to look elsewhere than the usual suspects (i.e. Judge, Edwards, Skuse etc.) and take a calculated gamble on some of the young guns like Dobra, El Mizouni and Morris. I wouldn't start Morris but I'd get him involved from the bench for 20 or 25 minutes at the end when there are tired legs out there for him to exploit. And I'd be inclined to put El Mizouni and Dobra starting with Downes as the enforcer and I wouldn't mind seeing Garbutt further up. I really think with El Mizouni, Dobra and Garbutt playing in behind Norwood, Keane or Jackson the strikers would get much better service. And Downes could run his legs off and look to boss the midfield by winning possession. You could argue we've had enough squad rotation as it is but we've rotated the usual suspects in different combinations and they haven't cut the mustard for a while, so I'd love to give Dobra and El Mizouni the opportunity to see if they can help us get back to winning ways.

We've looked to slow and pedestrian and predictable for a while now. No win since Bonfire Night in the league and in that game against Rochdale we looked pretty clueless first half! Time go inject some fresh ideas and energy, Dobra and El Mizouni calling! Too many of the old guard have gone stale, they need to know if they don't deliver other players will be promoted ahead of them.
Sir Matt Busby's quote, "If you're good enough, you're old enough" is still on the wall in the Manchester United player's dressing room. Age shouldn't be any barrier. Look at Liverpool's young team that beat Everton at the weekend. We've invested all this money in the academy and yes we've promoted some (Downes and Woolfenden) to good effect, but there's still several more that I'm convinced that could do at least an equal (or even a much better job!) than some of the chaff that we've had on show this season.

I meant we've looked too slow, pedestrian and predictable of late.

Paul Lambert has no interest in the U23 team, because he is a very poor coach, Culverhouse was the coach in the only time that he was a good Manager, and that was at Norwich City?
