Przybek and Henderson Make Debuts as Cotter Returns at Peterborough
Wednesday, 4th Dec 2019 18:58

Keeper Adam Przybek and central defender Alex Henderson make their debuts and Barry Cotter returns to first-team action for the first time since April 2018 as manager Paul Lambert names his usual much-changed side for this evening’s second-round Leasing.com Trophy tie at Peterborough. No one who was in the XI at Coventry on Sunday is included in the 18.

Wales U21 international keeper Przybek (above), 19, joined the Blues in the summer after leaving West Brom following a trial last season.

Second-year scholar Henderson (below), 18, who is from Boxford near Sudbury and who joined Bury Town on loan at the weekend but is still able to play for the Blues, lines-up alongside stand-in skipper Cole Skuse at the centre of the defence.

Cotter - whose last first-team match was as a late sub in the 4-0 win at Reading in the penultimate match of 2017/18 - is at right-back and Myles Kenlock on the left.

The Blues again seem likely to play a three-man midfield with Emyr Huws joined by Brett McGavin and Idris El Mizouni.

Up front, James Norwood looks set to play down the middle with Jordan Roberts back after his toe injury on the left and Armando Dobra on the right.

There are more youngsters on the bench, academy keeper Jake Alley, left-back Tommy Smith, 16-year-old midfielder Liam Gibbs, who made his debut as a late sub in the last round, midfielder Tommy Hughes and strikers Tyreece Simpson and Ben Folami, who all also appeared earlier in the competition.

On-loan Spurs winger Anthony Georgiou is the only senior man among the subs.

Posh boss Darren Ferguson also rings the changes, making nine from the team which beat Dover Athletic 3-0 in the FA Cup on Sunday. Only Dan Butler and Joe Ward keep their places with strike pair Mo Eisa and Ivan Toney on the bench.

Peterborough: Chapman, Mason (c), Bennett, Butler, Ward, Barker, Woodyard, Kanu, Tasdemir, Jones, Dembele. Subs: O'Malley, Cartwright, Kent, Reed, Burrows, Eisa, Toney.

Town: Przybek, Cotter, Henderson, Skuse (c), Kenlock, McGavin, Huws, El Mizouni, Dobra, Roberts, Norwood. Subs: Alley, Smith, Hughes, Gibbs, Simpson, Georgiou, Folami. Referee: Graham Salisbury (Lancashire).

This is fine. We are building up a backlog of more important games. These are lads with ability and promise - let them have a go.

I can't understand some of the negativity on here. For the past few years we've been screaming out for someone to give the youngsters a go, now the youngsters are getting game time for our club and people are still not happy. 🤷‍♂️

Yes we want to win football matches but you have to look at the bigger picture and long term and by doing this in the Leasing Trophy, the management are having the opportunity to assess them with their own eyes and not just from reports from loans.

Back to boys. Up the Towen👊

Go strong, my bottom. His pre-match and post-match comments have been a disgrace this season. Sorry not a fan of his.

This is our 4th game is this tournament - by this time next week we'll have played 4 FA Cup games. We've had 3 international breaks.
I'd rather Lambert and his midfield be on the training ground working on being more creative than this relentless midweek nonsense. The fact that they have not been shows.

Georgiou only on the bench for this game - we really might as well send him back now as Spurs have sent him here to get some game time. Lambert definitely aiming for an exit from this competition. That's fine if we get promoted.

Good bye Harry Wright, clearly his face does not fit. Real pity as he always impressed in the U23s.

Some of the comments on here beggar belief !!!
Those players put out tonight, especially the young ones have more talent in their little fingers than you will ever have in a lifetime in the fat ones you press your keyboard with.
Total waste of space some of you.

I'm all in favour of giving young players a chance, but i might be wrong but to win competitions you have to pick your strongest team ,which Lambert hasn't been doing all season .
