Town Draw Peterborough in Leasing.com Trophy
Saturday, 16th Nov 2019 14:12

Town have drawn Peterborough United away in the second round of the Leasing.com Trophy.

The tie will be played at London Road, where the Blues drew 2-2 in League One earlier in the season, in the first week of December, probably the Wednesday with the Blues perhaps in FA Cup action against Coventry at St Andrew's on the preceding Sunday.

The visit to Cambridgeshire will come as something of a relief to fans with Exeter City and Bristol Rovers two of the other three clubs the Blues could have been paired with. The MK Dons were the other.

At least it's not a long trip for the excellent away support who will no doubt do the club proud.

Will we field a strong team though?

The second string in this i can handle, thats fine! I just dont agree with second string in the FA cup ( last Saturday ) and then third string in the week against Colchester. All it has done is created 2 away games one of which could have been avoided!

And i dont think for one second we will beat Lincoln! So need to worry about the Coventry game before it! Another Embarrassing FA cup exit coming up, and this time in the first instead of the third round. Really annoyed at how we dont take cup games seriously! An early cup exit will soon be forgotten if he gets us up and that is by no means certain!

I'm sure Lambert will "pick a team that should have been good enough" to win this game and then be secretly very happy when we bow out.

The last 8 days of Lamberts decisions have annoyed me intensely and if we lose against Lincoln with a weakened team and then Blackpool with players ring rusty from no involvement for 2 weeks the fans will really question Lamberts management or rather mismanagement. If he plays the same players at Peterborough in the EFL trophy as he did at Colchester we will probably lose that as well. I despair !!!!

I think some need to calm down.....we are still in 2 cup competitions.
Reading some comments, it's like we're going out of both before we've even played.

I can't see us winning at Peterborough with a second or third string, but if we lose at least we can forget this awful competition, hopefully forever as we reestablish ourselves in the Championship next season.

Stowtractor. You despair at what?
How is it miss management...we haven't been knocked out of either cup yet.

If it hadn't been for that fluke goal, we would be home to Stevenage instead of away to Posh. Can't see our B team beating them which is a shame as it was our only realistic chance of getting to Wembley.

I despair because we did not play a strong enough team to beat Lincoln and have an unnecessary replay. I despair because we put a weak side out at Colchester and lose to our nearest rivals in a cup competition when there was no need as the first team had a 10 day break before Blackpool. I despair because Lambert has left too many senior players out when he could have used a sprinkling of them in both games. I love my Club and hate to see us lose when and whoever we play.

Can understand fully PL's intent to make promotion the main priority, and to take team selection decisions accordingly. Whilst cup competitions represent a way of relieving the relentless pressures of a highly physical league, and of course supporters want to see the Club respect them, they will always be of lower priority, relative the quality of resources at PL's disposal. And, in truth, the various cup competitions have lost a little of the magic and sparkle over recent years; driven in part by the voracious demands of the media, sponsors' interests and supporters' perceptions of their continued relevance etc.

My concern, as far we're concerned, is the quality of our strength and quality in depth. With the size of our squad, we should be capable of beating Lincoln and Colchester, and doing so with convincing performances. But, whilst results have gone our way, it has to be said that first team performances have also been at best patchy. I worry that something about our coaching and training methods is not quite right. If we continue to get results then I suppose it's no big issue, because at first team level we possess that extra bit of quality to get us through. But below that level, I think there's a fairly large gap.

Ringwoodblue...that's assuming we then went on to beat Colchester on penalties. We didn't look like scoring all game.

Dear PL can you PLEASE put out a team to actually win a Cup game?
Our quickest route to Wembley is via The Leasing.com Trophy. I think that our wonderful fans deserve that from you as Manager of the top team (at the moment) in this Tournament, honour it?

To be honest, I have a feeling we won't beat Peterboro whatever team we put out. Hope I'm wrong.

I honestly cannot believe some of these comments I am reading on here. We are currently top of the league with some massive important games in hand and you are moaning about not fielding a strong team for the bloody checkatrade trophy. Whilst I also love the excitement of the cup draws especially the fa cup when your club is in it seriously this season of all seasons do we really want to run the risk of our first team players getting injured in one of these games. Let's be honest we have a handful of decent league 1 players hence why we are top but if a few of these decent players start taking knocks I can guarantee we will soon start slipping down the league which is our PRIORITY. You will soon have something to moan about then. Trust me players do not get rusty if out for a couple of weeks they still train etc. Get a grip and stop this ridiculous moaning.

I just also want to add whilst I'm on a rant that if any of you young players read some of these comments and think we don't appreciate you then your wrong. Game time is obviously important for your development which is why getting into the first team and playing some of these cup games is a massive achievement and this is why I think checkatrade games etc are the perfect opportunity for you to get this experience. This is how you then get the chance to be in the squad for important league games by proving yourselves.

I believe that targeting the EFL trophy would be beneficial for all. I appreciate it's not much of a prize and perceived as a joke but it's there to be won and why shouldn't the highest ranked team go for it?
All players want medals from school age and upwards.
The FA cup is beyond a team in the 3rd tier and a run is all you'll get (plus unwanted injuries).
Come on you blues.

we don't take cup games seriously because it has become a Mickey Mouse competition by the way clubs are allowed to treat it.
