Lambert Tight-Lipped on Ward Return Claims
Monday, 4th Nov 2019 11:39

Town boss Paul Lambert wouldn’t be drawn on suggestions he might look to re-sign former Blue Grant Ward once the 24-year-old is back fit following the cruciate knee ligament injury he suffered at QPR on Boxing Day.

Ward is currently working on his return to fitness with Town, as clubs are required to do with players they have released.

Rotherham boss Paul Warne has expressed his interest in bringing the former Millers’ loanee back to South Yorkshire, but said recently that he anticipated Ward returning to the Blues.

“Wardy’s situation is what it is,” Lambert said when asked whether that might be the case.

“It’s the same as Freddie [Sears], the two lads have done great to get back to even knocking a ball around again, and that’s great for the two of them because it’s a big mental barrier getting over that.

“Let the lads get rehabbed the right way and there’s no pressure, none whatsoever, so I’ll wait and see.”

Although the Blues have plenty of midfielders, Lambert could well view Ward as a versatile player could cover a number of roles, not least right wing-back where he featured for Town on several occasions - most notably during Bryan Klug's stints as caretake-manager - and where there is currently no out-and-out deputy for Kane Vincent-Young.

Not for me. Doesn't do enough.

Hopefully he may flourish under the current regime as opposed to the old one.

Could be good for us this season.

I agree that he may flourish under Lamberts management, we lack players with real penetration who can run with the ball, other teams hate it and not enough do it these days. I say give the lad a chance maybe play him on a game to game basis and see where we are at the end of the season?

We've already used 29 players this season, with a few others yet to play e.g. Bishop & Sears. How many players do we need?

100% sign if fully fit. Good level for a free. Bring him in and sell Donacian. He is better cover for right back/wing back. Actually ideal wing back and can play other roles. No brainer for me. Excellent squad player with potential to actually be a regular if he could be more consistent.

Agree with Terry N.

Ward has a good engine, is skilful, can take on a defender and would be useful cover at either wingback or in midfield.

WORTH A PUNT UNTIL THE END OF THE SEASON.

Absolutely not - we do not need another midfielder to rotate(especially one who hasn't done that much for us)
What we do need is a quality back up for KVY as we have seen what wingers(Edwards) playing as wing backs can do or rather cant do

"Lambert tight lipped on Ward return"? He was pretty tight lipped about everything! I do like him and what he's done for our club to date but find him too much of a closed book sometimes. He openly criticised Evans for not engaging with the fans then offers us very little aside from the usual "everybody is/has been great".

Not needed. We have enough midfielders.Need any available money for players with the ability to improve side.Too many of our players who have come back from long term injuries sadly have not made the grade.

Interesting! thought his days were numbered at town.
He was great when we first signed him scoring his hat trick on his debut, sad thing is he hasn't done a lot since. Think he has the potential of being a good player but for town I'm not sure.
It's a maybe from me, only if he gets back to the player he was when we first signed him.
Could be good cover in our great squad rotation😁

Very frustrating player with so much ability normally follows a good game with a bad one ,this is the problem he's so inconsistent needs to work much harder. Whether we should sign him im not sure he was one of the top earners at the club. Offer him a deal to the end of the season on reduced wages perhaps.

Radlett. The issue isn't quantity but quality.
The second we need more of.
We have more than enough players, but many are showing the lack of quality, for a team chasing top spot anyway.

ITFCsince73 - agreed. Any additions should be better than what we have already, given we have over 40 professionals. I think Ward would be no more than a back up squad player, so it's a no from me.
