Wilson Signs New Contract
Thursday, 24th Oct 2019 17:04

Blues centre-half James Wilson has signed a new 18-month Town deal with the club having an option for a further season.

The 30-year-old joined the Blues on a short-term contract which ran until New Year’s Day in the summer following a successful trial after his Lincoln City deal was cancelled by mutual consent.

Wilson, who has been capped once by Wales, has enjoyed an impressive start to his Blues career and has made 11 starts.

The Newport-born defender is delighted to get his future sorted having enjoyed his first few months at Portman Road.

"I'm really happy to have signed," he told iFollow Ipswich. "It's all come about quite quickly over the last few days but I am pleased it's sorted now.

"When I joined in the summer I wanted it to be for the long term and as soon as I arrived I knew I'd enjoy it here. Everyone at the club has been so welcoming so it has been perfect.

"I'm enjoying life on and off the pitch and bar the last couple of games things have been going really well for us.

"Last night was disappointing for everyone but I'm confident we can turn things around and find our form again. I like it here and I'm excited to see what's in store moving forward."

Of course he has after his worst game for The Blue Army! Classic ITFC he's bound to be awful from now on!!!

Seriously I'm very happy with this but you have to wonder why the wheels always fall off. Last night saw a very poor performance whilst running a promotion to attract the kids, pretty sure there won't be that many begging to go back! And that's after a poor performance at Stanley. Starting to get a bit worried about the Southend 3 point banker.

Moaning apart, well done James you've deserved it

Great news. Now needs a spot in the team, for every game.
Not on occasion, as does the Woolf.
A fantastic potential centre back pairing imo.
The little minutes they have played together, just sent messages of reassurance out to the stands.

Well done, despite last nights blip he and Wolfy have been by far our strongest defenders. Hoping that they are paired together in a 4 4 2 formation

ITFCsince73 totally agree Wolfie and Wilson should be our go to CB's

He has done okay, but by no means exceptional. A very no nonsense defender, low on quality who can't pass a ball. Has made a number of mistakes too. However, looks better than Nisala and is adequate. But for me, CB is still an area we need to strengthen in January.

Terrific news. Just what we needed after the last few days.

Good news. A no nonsense reliable defender who just does what it says on the tin. It Must help him to concentrate now that his immediate future has been sorted.

Listening to MM's (as always) astute comments post-match in regard to previous inertia in January windows I have a sneaking feeling that ME will surprise us all next time around. We'll see I guess.

Is an excellent signing at this level provided he gets game time ...Pl needs to settle on a team 5 changes is no good for any consistency...and with Holy pencilled in as NO1 thats 50% of your team ....you don't build success in that ....we are with you Paul ....just know your best team and stick with it

A decent back up to Chambo and the Wolf at this level, but a short term solution which needs to be addressed ‘if' we go back up. Still can't help thinking we shouldn't be losing back to back games at this level without scoring. Hoping these concerns disappear quickly.

Lathers. He could have held firm, stayed till his contract ended in January, and left for nothing to a Championship team, possibly with a choice of teams as there's no fee.
Considering this is his 1st season with us, only 14 games in, hasn't started many games.
I personally have seen enough, that tells me, if he had a real run in the team....
Come January those Championship clubs would have a big fee to pay, now this contract is signed.
I can't remember any calamity moments from him, thus far, that has been suggested.
Always looks to pass rather than lump, looks composed, and can defend.
And with new contract and game time, will be a great signing. Imo.

Good! Has looked solid: no frills, no nonsense defender. Just what is needed at this level. Good to see the club tying this one up quickly too.

Pleased about this, as others have said, a good no nonsense defender. He deserves this deal! a couple of not so complimentary comments on this story, i wonder if we had paid a fee for him would supporters be more happy. He has surprised a lot of us i think with how well he has done!

As mentioned by others, Wilson and the Wolf should be the nailed on starters in central defence!

Going back to the Rotherham game, it still hurts! We were top of the table and despite what PL was saying i dont think we have played that well, lot had been down to the fact that teams werent converting the chances they were creating , teams were missing sitters, rotherham took there chances well. I still dont think postponing the games helped, we had momentum, whether its other teams inabilities or our superiority we had Momentum!

Got a real feeling that the southend game is going to be messy and difficult, when do we ever beat teams we should beat who are on a run of poor results.

Wilson to start in what should be a favoured 11 and stick with it!

Agreed he's a no nonsense defender but not sure he's better than Chambers. Needs to show more at this level on distribution and positioning.
