Downes to Be Assessed Ahead of Accrington Trip
Tuesday, 15th Oct 2019 13:18

Town will monitor the hip injury midfielder Flynn Downes suffered while away on England U20s duty last night over the next few days ahead of Sunday's live Sky game at Accrington Stanley.

Downes came on as a 65th minute sub replacing Blues team-mate Andre Dozzell as the Young Lions were beaten 3-0 by the Czech Republic at London Road, Peterborough but limped off shortly before the end.

“It’s an impact injury to his left hip,” Blues physio Matt Byard told the club site.

“We will see how it settles down over the next few days before we have a clearer idea of whether he will be okay for the weekend.”

Downes has been a regular fixture in the centre of the Town midfield this season, starting all 11 of the Blues’ League One games.

If it's just impact, shouldn't be a problem as brusing will recover. Phew!

It's not a problem. Rest him and let Huws play. No point gambling with his fitness.

good time for him to have a break and give Huws a go from start

It's crazy that we have the option of a, dare I saw, fit Emyr Huws to come in.

They borrow our Ferrari and hand it back damaged, the best of it is we have to then repair the damn thing before a big race on Sunday!

Just a matter of time and timing ,he will recover BUT there'll be no rushing the fences by PL .
Fortunately we appear to have now a multitude of options opening up with a very strong and mainly fit squad !
FD might have to actually fight for his place AND that would really signal strength in depth !

Agree totally with above: Huws is a totally class, older head, who will look head and shoulders above the rest in this league given a chance. Downes and Huws next season in the "engine room"?
