Norwood on Bench as Blues Make Four Changes at Gillingham
Saturday, 21st Sep 2019 14:21

Town boss Paul Lambert has made four changes from the team which beat the MK Dons 1-0 on Tuesday for this afternoon’s game at Gillingham but with the side again set to start in a 3-5-2 system.

Ahead of keeper Tomas Holy, who is facing his old club, Luke Woolfenden returns on the right of a back three with skipper Luke Chambers and James Wilson.

Gwion Edwards is at left wing-back, a role he previously played at Peterborough and in the Leasing.com Trophy tie with Tottenham’s U21s, with Kane Vincent-Young on the opposite flank.

Andre Dozzell comes into the centre of midfield for his second league start of the season ahead of Cole Skuse and Flynn Downes, while Alan Judge is also back in the side playing off main striker Kayden Jackson.

James Norwood, who aggravated a long-standing groin injury on Tuesday, drops to the bench along with Jon Nolan, Emyr Huws and Luke Garbutt, who all started at Stadium MK after injury absences.

Gillingham’s starting XI includes Stuart O’Keefe, who began his career as an academy scholar with the Blues, while ex-loanee Ben Pringle is on the bench.

With leaders Coventry not in action today and with the Blues having a superior goal difference, a draw would take Town back to the top.

Gillingham: Bonham, O’Keefe, Ehmer (c), Ogilvie, Hanlan, Fuller, Byrne, Lee, Jakubiak, O’Connor, Tucker. Subs: Walsh, Hodson, Ndjoli, Mandron, Charles-Cook, Cissé, Pringle.

Town: Holy, Woolfenden, Chambers (c), Wilson, Vincent-Young, Skuse, Downes, Edwards, Dozzell, Judge, Jackson. Subs: Norris, Norwood, Nolan, Garbutt, Georgiou, Huws, Keane. Referee: Christopher Sarginson (Staffordshire).

interesting, can see why the 4 are rested, but it's going to be much trickier to move to 4-4-2 without making subs this time, bit worried that it's a bit lightweight going forward. coyb anyway!

For me, Judge has done nothing this season so far but the excuse is always ‘he's playing out of his favoured position' but today he is playing in behind Jackson so we'll see how he performs today and there will be no excuses. Also a big chance for Doz to shine as he's been another major disappointment this season in my opinion. I'm not sure about this team selection and formation but in Lambo we trust.

I wonder just wonder if Dozzell can actually have a half decent game so he is actually warranted a start!

For me it is a worry that PL keeps reverting to one up top when we have 3 fit main strikers and a 2 man strike force worries every team certainly in this league. However we have to trust the manager as we are in the top two. Would also have liked to have seen Huws or Nolan start as played well last time out but that is probably just being picky :-).

Formation and selection has me totally puzzled? It says 3-5-2 it looks more like 5-4-1. Well if his (PL) tinkering still provides results then maybe nothing to moan about but yes this is very puzzling....
