Judge and Dozzell Win Caps in Draws
Thursday, 5th Sep 2019 21:54

Alan Judge and Andre Dozzell won caps as both the Republic of Ireland and England U20s drew this evening.

Judge was a 58th minute sub as former Blues boss Mick McCarthy’s Ireland side drew 1-1 with Switzerland in a Euro 2020 qualifier in Dublin, ex-Town striker David McGoldrick equalising in the 84th minute with his first international goal.

Judge, who was winning his seventh full cap, was booked for committing a couple of fouls and also made one important intercepting far post header behind for a corner with the Swiss otherwise appearing certain to score.

Ireland, who now top their group, although having played more games than the teams below them, face Bulgaria in a friendly on Tuesday, also in Dublin.

Dozzell was in the starting line-up as the England youngsters drew 0-0 with Holland at Shrewsbury’s Montgomery Waters Meadow.

The midfielder was winning his fourth cap at U20 level. He could win his fifth when the Young Lions take on Switzerland in Basel in another friendly on Monday.

The only result Mick McCarthy likes better than an away 1-1 draw is a home 0-0 draw! :-)

Mick McCarthy is coaching a team in number one position in our section. We support him in all his efforts. I a true Blue fan wish he had same support here!!!

Mick McFarthy will be working his magic on Alan Judge he'll probably come back a left back. Nice to see David Mcgoldrick doing well i know his family couldn't settle down here and lived in the Midlands which must have made it very difficult for him to perform at his best ,but as they say form is temporary class is permanent.

Don't get me wrong, I was a staunch Mick outer but seeing an unfancied Ireland team three points clear at the top of their group shows that he is a very experienced and canny manager.

I was at the game and Dozzell looked assured in the central midfield role. I have noticed a real change in all our holding midfield players. When they get the ball, their first thought is ‘can I get it forward?' Unfortunately, England played one up top although they would argue it was three. the two wide boys were virtually ineffective having been cancelled out by a very good Dutch defence. It was a very dull affair with hardly a sniff at goal at either end. The highlights for me were the crowd of over 2000 and some good individual performances (including Dozzell).

This is the problem with Dozzell he's not really adjusted to the physical aspects of the senior game and looks very nervous of being tackled consequently he releases the ball very quickly .

Steady on NSV. The only wins have come against the 2 weakest teams.
One of those possibly the weakest in Europe.
The top 2 will be Denmark and the Swiss.
Only enjoying top spot now as the top 2 have games in hand.
MM could succeed at international level 20 years ago...not now.
And is proving that by not getting the results needed.
The only thing he's proving is scrapping draws from better teams, and beating very poor teams by the odd goal or 2. And making those very week teams look so much better than they are.
All the above means Ireland won't qualify automatically, which means he's failed....again.
And is still very canny, making himself to look like he's doing a better job than he actually is.
