Away Days Beers Raise £300 for Beattie Statue
Wednesday, 4th Sep 2019 16:46

The Away Days Beer Company has raised £300 for The Beat Goes On campaign for a statue of Blues legend Kevin Beattie after donating cash from sales of their Town-themed beers.

Away Days, formed by Town fan and TWTDer Josh Bartlett last year, sell beers in tribute to Beattie himself, entitled The Beat, Sir Bobby Robson, Hoppy Robson, and Boncho Genchev, Boncho.

Josh, who handed over his contribution on Saturday’s Life’s a Pitch on BBC Radio Suffolk (pictured above), told TWTD that the beers have gone down well at a number of local pubs and bars: “We sold just shy of 1,500 of our ITFC-themed bottle beers and 45 casks with 5p from every bottle sale and £5 from every cask sale being donated to the fund.

“I'd like to thank Hopsters in Ipswich for selling our bottles, as well as Beers Of Europe who head up our online bottle sales distribution.

“Three regular pubs in Suffolk have helped on the cask sales with the Brantham Bull, the Gladstone Arms in Stowmarket and Greshams Sports Club all stocking our ITFC cask beers regularly.”

Last week it was confirmed that The Beat Goes On campaign had reached its target with any further funds raised going towards additional aspects relating to the statue, such as lighting and landscaping.

However, having met the target, the Proper Golf Day at Hintlesham Hall, scheduled for Friday 13th September, has now been cancelled.

Led by the EADT and Ipswich Star in conjunction with BBC Radio Suffolk and TWTD, The Beat Goes On was launched on December 18th last year on what would have been Beattie’s 65th birthday.

The statue, which is being sculpted by Sean Hedges-Quinn, who was responsible for those of Sir Alf Ramsey and Sir Bobby Robson, is expected to be ready to be unveiled in the spring.
