Emmanuel Joins Bolton
Monday, 2nd Sep 2019 18:04

Right-back Josh Emmanuel has joined Bolton Wanderers on a free transfer on a deal to the end of the season, the Trotters have announced.

The 22-year-old was among those expected to leave Town ahead of today's 5pm deadline, although with a loan appearing more likely than a permanent exit, with Kane Vincent-Young and Janoi Donacien both ahead of him in the pecking order.

Emmanuel, whose Blues contract was due to run to next summer, made 24 starts and five sub appearances for Town without scoring.

Coincidentally, the Londoner is the last player to find the net in the league for Wanderers, having scored an own goal when the Blues won 2-1 at the University of Bolton Stadium in April.

Emmanuel, whose last Town game was the Carabao Cup tie at Luton, joined the academy as a schoolboy having previously been with West Ham's youth set-up.

While with the Blues Emmanuel spent time on loan at Crawley, Rotherham and Shrewsbury.

The full-back's departure, which went through very close to the 5pm deadline with the clubs concerned that it might not have made it in time, was the only business at Portman Road as the transfer window closed for clubs in Leagues One and Two.

Bolton made nine signings as they bolstered their squad following their takeover, including ex-Blues frontman Daryl Murphy on a free transfer from Nottingham Forest.

Their other seven signings are Thibaud Verlinden on loan from Stoke, Liam Bridcutt on loan from Forest, Will Buckley, who re-signed having left at the end of last season, Jake Wright on loan from Sheffield United, Ali Crawford from Doncaster, Chris O'Grady, who had been released by Oldham, and Joe Bunney, whose contract at Northampton was terminated.

Yes, it's a permanent deal - inasmuch as any arrangement with Bolton Wanderers is permananet.

Saw Emmanuel play for us several times, never looked out of place and always useful going forwards. While I don't pretend to know better than the manager, I simply don't understand why he never got a run of games. Always looked like there was a player in there and certainly no worse than Kenlock. I won't be surprised if he makes a career for himself at this level or higher.

Sorry to hear this but I wish him all the best. I was surprised he went out on loan in the first place as up to that point I thought he'd played quite well and looked an exciting prospect, but with recent additions would have been unlikely to have featured. Hope Bolton will now improve and take points from our rivals.

Looks like Bolton now have a full squad. Played them at the right time.

Could be the making of him as he needs to get out of his little comfort zone.

Good for all parties involved. Also good to see Bolton beginning to regroup with some decent signings.

Some decent signings there for Bolton all in all. They will be a different proposition when they get them all up & running AND they will take points off our rivals. That 0-5 result could be a very useful result for us.
Good luck to Josh, wish him well.

Wish Josh all the best, for a while a few seasons back I thought he could develop into a good right back but Mick never gave him a run of games and went out on loan but still a question mark whether he was really given enough starts here...I'd rather have as second choice over Donacien.

You're right, Len. We played them when they were losing 5-0 every match. They'll be tougher to beat now that they've recruited some men to complement their brave but outmuscled kids. Could it be that we're getting some luck this season? We've had three penalties already. How many did we have all last season?

Shame, but wish Josh all the best. Had a few chances to break into the side but just didn't work out. All the best for the future, but from the clubs point of view, why no transfer fee? I mean even a small fee like 150k for example? Anyway we move on COYB.

With all of those signings, it shows what sharp practice postponing that match due to 'Player welfare' concerns was. They will now have Daryl Murphy up front when the game is played and not an U-18's player!

Always a shame when one of our own don't cut the mustard, but I doubt few could argue against this outcome.
Good humour Bentley, I enjoyed that post 😂 unfortunately good humour can come at a price on here.

I really like Josh and while KVY is a better player I do feel the lad hasn't had a fair crack at PR. Hurst farmed him out and Lambert clearly didnt fancy him as he hokey cokied him in the team when he came back from Shrewsbury especially at the end of last season and seemed to be scapegoated for the Notts County pre season friendly. Better than Donacien but Josh has been never had a run like Kenlock and gets blamed for mistakes while Captain Calamity gets a free pass every week despite making more ricks than Terry Fwit from Viz. I hope its just a loan because I think Josh is still a Div 1/Championship potential and I think he could do that in an ITFC shirt.

Yep I agree with the collective words of wisdom expressed. Wish all of the best for Josh. As for Darryl Murphy going to Bolton, good move by Bolton. Wouldn't have minded him coming back to Portman Road for a season!

Good luck Josh, I never thought that you ever had the full backing from PL, just like Donacien, without the managers confidence it would always be difficult.

Good luck, young man.
Saw Josh play for Town at Newcastle a few years ago. He turned in a good performance. Always had a sensible, professional attitude, I thought, not a whinger, prepared to put the needs of the club high on his agenda. I think he's been a victim of the recent, grim, years at Portman Road, his loans putting him out of mind while he was out of sight. This move gives him an opportunity for a new start.

I understand there are various opinions on who is better, Josh or Donacien, but what I don't understand is that this was a free! His wages couldn't have been that high and unless there is someone that we are interested in at Bolton coming the other way I'm a bit confused 🤔
Murphy will probably score against us in the return leg and keep them up!

I think he had ample opportunities and never convinced.....well yes he always convinced me that he was nowhere near the standard required. His performance at Luton was dreadful. A trier for sure and with fantastic physical attributes, but one of those players that looks as if he's trying to control a balloon.Add to that his inability to make simple passes, poor positional sense, slow reactions and slow speed of thought and it should be obvious to everyone that a future at Ipswich is highly unlikely.

I expected him to leave.... but on a free.
