Norwood Set for Wrestling Debut
Friday, 30th Aug 2019 10:16

Blues striker James Norwood has revealed that he could be set to take part in his first wrestling show in the wake of his WWE-themed goal celebration GIFs.

Speaking on the Sky Sports WWE Lock Up podcast, the 28-year-old said he has been asked to appear at an upcoming event local to Ipswich.

"Oh, 100 per cent,” Norwood responded when asked if he had any plans to get involved in wrestling. “I've been invited onto a wrestling show as a guest enforcer in a couple of weeks. It's still in the early stages. We're just trying to clear it with people.

"Somebody came to me and said they would put on an event for a charity of my choice and I said I'd love to do it for Cancer Research. He said we can do 10 matches and it would be somewhere near Ipswich.

"That's all I can give you at the minute. We're looking at dates and I need to get it cleared by the club then it's all go ahead.”

However, he ruled out wrestling as a post-football career: “I just don't think I'll be mobile enough. If I keep playing for another six or seven years I'm not sure the knees will be able to handle climbing up to the top rope and all the landing. If I feel I could do it I'd love to give it a go in some capacity."

What is it with Lambert and signing strikers in League One that score lots of goals and want to be wrestlers?!

I know nothing about WWE, whats an enforcer? If it's non contact and he's not in any danger of getting injured, i'd say go for it.

For non wrestling bods an enforcer accompanies the wrestler to the ring and at ringside. He's not wrestling, he's in effect part of the entourage. He might get a little involved for the entertainment aspect but they won't put him in any serious harms way. It will be good PR for the club and if you haven't seen a live wrestling show well worth taking a look and your kids down as they are always hugely entertaining if not a bit of a throwback to the good old days.

Footballers are usually banned from taking part in activities that could cause them injury, such as skiing, so I can't see the club allowing this, especially with our track record!

Surely the club won't allow this, what a way to get a good football player injured ? perhaps he should simply donate some money to the charity instead.

If it involves no physical involvement then fine but if it does, then it's a no no and Norwood should know that and remember who is paying his wages.

You people realise wrestling is fake right? A charity wrestling event isn't going to cause injuries.

Wrestling isn't a sport and is just plain embarrassing, especially watching the adults in the crowd who believe it.

All these comments worrying about Norwood getting injured, duh! He is going as an enforcer, he will smile benignly until he has to whip out the assault rifle and whack half a dozen baddies before copping a hail of bullets from the police. The chances of him spending any time on the treatment table are zero.
