Ex-Blue Mings in England Squad
Thursday, 29th Aug 2019 14:12

Former Town defender Tyrone Mings has been named in the England squad for the first time ahead of the Euro 2020 qualifiers against Bulgaria and Kosovo next month.

Mings, who joined Aston Villa from AFC Bournemouth for an initial fee of £20 million this summer, made 49 starts and 15 sub appearances for the Blues between December 2012 and June 2015 having been signed for £10,000 from Chippenham Town.

The 26-year-old, who hasn’t previously won a cap at any level, moved to the Cherries for £8.1 million with the Blues receiving a further £1.2 million following his Villa switch - with another £650,000 possible in the future - making him the club’s record sale.

Also in the squad is one-time Town academy schoolboy Nick Pope, who is currently with Burnley.

Meanwhile, the England U20s squad for their games against Holland and Switzerland is set to be named tomorrow with Flynn Downes and Andre Dozzell expected to be included.

Elsewhere, former Town loanee Callum Connolly has joined Lincoln City on loan from Everton for the rest of the season.

England: Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool), Ross Barkley (Chelsea), Ben Chilwell (Leicester City), Joe Gomez (Liverpool), Tom Heaton (Aston Villa), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool), Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur), Michael Keane (Everton), Jesse Lingard (Manchester United), James Maddison (Leicester City), Harry Maguire (Manchester United), Tyrone Mings (Aston Villa), Mason Mount (Chelsea), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Liverpool), Jordan Pickford (Everton), Nick Pope (Burnley), Marcus Rashford (Manchester United), Declan Rice (West Ham United), Danny Rose (Tottenham Hotspur), Jadon Sancho (Borussia Dortmund), Raheem Sterling (Manchester City), Kieran Trippier (Atletico Madrid), Aaron Wan-Bissaka (Manchester United), Callum Wilson (AFC Bournemouth), Harry Winks (Tottenham Hotspur).

Fantastic news for him. Must have been a frustrating few years, but persistence and hard work will pay off.
Good luck Tyrone

His move to Villa - loan, then permanent - has really paid off for him. Good on him, he was a great player for us in my opinion. I don't suppose we get some money if he gets a cap?

Surprised Connolly has not gone to a Championship club. I rated him too. Hope he misses the games against us.

Well deserved. Looks to have developed into a top centre back at Villa. Credit to Dean Smith and John Terry for realising his potential.

In our opinion always looked as if he'd the potential to really progress ; a good character , sensible and intelligent and quite evidently disposed to learn and dedicate himself to improving .
This recognition following from growing and competent displays at AV is well merited .
Well done TM,many congratulations .

Well done Tyrone and well deserved. Maybe just a tiny amount of credit should go to MM for taking him from Chippenham Town for £10k.

Astonishing : he was rubbish. But then Cresswell was capped too, and he was equally bad.

I'm no MM fan, but credit where it's due. The scouting staff ( presumably) spotted the kid and MM too.

Its amazing to think he has hardly played that many games at a top level having been injured. England's standards are dropping. Good luck if it triggers another payment to us.

Spotted by or recommended to Russel Osman wasn't he? but well done to MM and ITFC for taking the plunge. Pound for pound our best money making signing so far by some distance.
