Updated: McGreal Confirms Fee Agreed for Vincent-Young
Thursday, 15th Aug 2019 14:05

Colchester United manager John McGreal has confirmed that the U’s have accepted an offer from the Blues for full-back Kane Vincent-Young with the 23-year-old now holding talks with Town regarding personal terms.

What's understood to be a £500,000 move is not expected to be confirmed today with those discussions ongoing and with the player not yet having undergone a medical.

“I got a phone call off [chairman] Robbie [Cowling] last night to say that the clubs have agreed a fee and have given permission for Kane and his representatives to go and have a chat with Ipswich," former Blues centre-half McGreal told the Colchester Gazette.

“Kane’s been great since I’ve been here — he’s been a real mainstay of how I want to do things and he can play either side as full-back.

“He’ll be a real tough one to replace if he goes, there’s no question about that because of how he performs, the athleticism he has and also what type of player and character he is. He has been excellent for us.”

Vincent-Young spent time on trial with Town during pre-season ahead of 2018/19 but wasn't offered a deal and ended up signing a new two-year contract at Colchester.

Last week the one-time Tottenham academy youngster, who also had a spell with Banbury early in his career, was linked with moves to Championship sides Luton and Charlton but their transfer deadline passed with Vincent-Young still at the JobServe Community Stadium. Leagues One and Two are still open for transfer business until September 2nd.

Town reportedly may not be the only contenders for the Camden-born defender’s signature with Sky having claimed that Sunderland could also join the chase, however, unless the situation changes significantly Vincent-Young appears certain to become a Blues player, probably in time to join up with the squad ahead of Saturday’s trip to Peterborough.
