Town Reiterate Stance on Antisocial Behaviour After Racist Chants at Luton
Thursday, 15th Aug 2019 12:14

Town have reiterated their stance against anti-social behaviour after reports of racist chants from a group of Blues supporters during the Carabao Cup defeat to Luton at Kenilworth Road on Tuesday evening.

Chants such as “Born in the UK, You’ll never sing that” and “Boris Johnson, he's coming for you” aimed towards the home support were condemned by other Town fans in a lengthy thread on the TWTD Forum yesterday. Luton is well-known for its multicultural make up.

“The facts confirm that our supporters are among the best behaved in the country and have been for many years,” Town secretary Stuart Hayton told the club site.

“That said, we have been informed of alleged racist chants made by a small number of our fans at Kenilworth Road and we are working with Luton on what is an ongoing matter.

“We have shown in the past that we will act strongly against anyone found to have conducted themselves in an offensive or antisocial manner both at games and with comments on social media and that will remain the club’s policy.”

I'm afraid there was more than a few.. I'm sure it was done in humour, but realise you can't do it just the same. Die Delia song just as harmful too. Get away with the saucepans up your you know what maybe... Got to be more intelligent with our chants!! 🎶

Myself being married to a woman of a different culture and colour with 2 children, unfortunately I have experienced such comments. Firstly was a lad who was in the same year as my eldest a couple of years back. Thank god the school was fantastic with how they dealt with it. Secondly was a comment made to me about having mixed race kids and they guy didn't know. He was most apologetic when my colleague made him aware. My youngest also had comments aimed at him. Lastly my eldest and his mate whom is of a different colours had comments made against them whilst playing under 11 football. My lad who had just turned 11 was in tears and scared. Each time the offending person was dealt with appropriately. As a husband and father, it is not pleasant seeing people that you care about on the receiving end. Unfortunately it is still in existence in all walks of life and should not be accepted, but to a degree still is and not always highlighted. As most people are fully aware, many of these people are well educated and do jobs that suits there skill set.
Point being, is that if these people in the Ipswich end (supporters or not I/we don't know) were to be put in the Luton supporters, would they have the balls to sing such songs or make such comments, even if it were tongue in cheek. Unfortunately, I have found through personal experience this mindset comes from parents and lack of education.
With that in mind and as the saying goes. A lack of education is dangerous.
I do think that as a whole that Ipswich fans are fully accepting of people from different backgrounds et all. The only thing I would ask would be that any of these people are pointed out to both the police and stadium security along with the club, and let the appropriate people deal with these idiots.

Unfortunately, London(ish) games always seem to attract these sort of ‘fans'. It's a real shame that they bring the good nature of our club into question. I hope they get found and banned.

This behaviour is not acceptable in any shape or form wherever it is displayed(shouted, sung) and to think that these idiots are connected to the club I have supported through thick and thin home and away, and abroad since 1958 makes me ashamed the club(with Luton) should study camera footage(God knows why the police and stewards nearby did nothing beggars belief!!!) and ban the idiots forever these are not Ipswich Town fc people our fans have always known and behaved better, Society must start hammering this type of behaviour and make an example of these idiots by banging them up otherwise they will just carry on they make me sick!!!!.

I wasn't there, and this is the first I'd heard of it. But if these were young kids with typical young-kid egos, then I think education rather than lifetime bans would be preferable. Make them realise we want their support but not their attitude.

Although I agree these chants shouldn't happen.
I Thought this was a football site NOT a political site.
Comments should be turned off

There are certain people on here who have downvoted comments condemning racist behaviour. Really?? What's wrong with you?!
