Beattie Statue Campaign Just £5,000 Off Total
Tuesday, 13th Aug 2019 19:32

The Beat Goes On, the campaign raising money for a statue of Blues legend Kevin Beattie, is now only £5,000 off its target following a £5,000 anonymous donation last night.

That cash was in addition to the £6,488 collected outside the ground ahead of Saturday’s game against Sunderland which owner Marcus Evans has doubled.

The Beat Goes On committee chairman Brad Jones, editor of the EADT and Ipswich Star, said: “We are so grateful to Town fans for their generosity. The donations at the weekend - generously matched by Marcus Evans - had already given us a huge boost.

“And the separate £5,000 donation on Monday, along with other pledges, has left us within touching distance.

“Ipswich Town fans have, once again, been incredible. And when this amazing statue is unveiled next year, they will be able to say they played a part in making it happen.”

Since the campaign was launched with a target of £110,000 more than £75,000 has been pledged in cash, while MC Contracts and Ridgeons are donating the plinth in kind.

Led by the EADT and Ipswich Star in conjunction with BBC Radio Suffolk and TWTD, The Beat Goes On was launched on December 18th last year on what would have been Beattie’s 65th birthday.

The next fundraising event is a Proper Golf Day featuring Town legends at Hintlesham Hall on Friday 13th September with tickets available from the Greshams Ipswich website.

You can make a donation online via the Go Fund Me page or send a cheque made payable to ‘The Beat Goes On’ to Kevin Beattie Statue Appeal, EADT, Portman House, 120 Princes Street, Ipswich, IP1 1RS.

There are also collection buckets at reception at the EADT’s offices and at BBC Radio Suffolk.

You can find The Beat Goes On campaign website here.

generously matched by Marcus Evans????? It's pocket money to him, why are we now scrabbling around for another £5,000? Why doesn't he just pay it?

Do you think ME’a income is higher than the those 20,000 fans put together? He has matched them though. Good effort
