Blues Face Premier League Competition for Trialist Castro
Saturday, 10th Aug 2019 10:03

Town trialist Quevin Castro has revealed he has received interest from Premier League sides Leicester and West Ham as he waits for the Blues to formally offer him a contract having impressed in his four-week spell at Playford Road.

Former Thetford Town midfielder Castro, who is 18 this month, played in the U23s friendlies at AFC Sudbury, in which he scored, Lowestoft Town and Maldon & Tiptree, as well as behind-closed-doors games against Tottenham and Arsenal.

According to the Bury Free Press, Portuguese-born Castro, who started his career in Sporting Lisbon's academy, has been offered a further eight-week spell with the Blues while the club look to have a one-year professional deal signed off by owner Marcus Evans.

However, Castro, the brother of Valter Rocha, top scorer in the Thurlow Nunn last season, and current Brecklander Telmo Rocha, says that while he’s keen to join Town there has been interest from Premier League clubs, which so far he has rebuffed.

“I do not know if I am going to take the eight weeks or not yet because there has been interest from bigger clubs,” he told the Free Press.

“I have been waiting for these past two weeks with them telling me they are going to give me an offer.

“Leicester City and West Ham have offered me trials and I have turned them away. I would love to stay at this club.”

Prior to joining up with the Town U23s Castro had been with National League club Sutton United for their pre-season preparations.

Sounds like his agent is trying to force Town's hand.

Let's get real here - if West Ham and Leicester were interested, he'd be off there like a shot.

Can’t they tell if he is any good? If he is then offer him terms! Simples!

Only hearing one side of the story but it does sound odd that we haven’t offered him a contract after all of this time.

He must be a real talent otherwise we wouldn’t still be interested. Maybe there’s something in his character that we’re not too sure about

Is it me or is this a very contradictory article? "I don't know if I'll stay as there has been interest from bigger clubs", "I would love to stay at this club" ?

An 18 year old should be wise enough to button his lip. Contract discussions should remain private.

Strange one this...if he's that good why haven't the club already sorted something out...

Tyler French from Sudbury had trials at many a club including us.. nearly signed for a PL side.. then Sudbury pretty much forced him out of their club.. ended up signing for Bradford..
This guy is probably worth a little punt, don't like the whole 'premier league clubs want me' attitude personally

News section comments are hilarious.Never seen him play but he says he's got some interest elsewhere and suddenly Evans is a disgrace. Here's an idea, let's let the people judging him.on this trial make the decision. They've actually seen him play!

Agree with both Uefa81fc and Terry Nutkins here. Sounds like a load of blocks and we'll find out soon enough if he's any good or not.

How cynical we have all become! Maybe not surprising given what's happened over the last 5 years or so!
