Town boss Paul Lambert was keeping tight-lipped on the prospect of imminent new additions at this morning’s press conference where he also commented on owner Marcus Evans’s message to fans, which was released earlier in the week.

Asked whether there was any chance of a new arrival in the next couple of weeks, Lambert said: “You were probably told not to ask me questions like that, but it is what it is, you saw Marcus's statement, so we've got to go with what we've got in this moment, so let's see.”

Was he pleased to see Evans release his statement to clarify a few points, something Lambert had urged the owner to do at last week’s press conference, he added: “I'm pretty sure it's not any different from a lot of things he's said in years gone by. I think if you report it right and you listen to it, then people are informed about everything.

“The great thing is everyone knows where the club is, everyone knows the stance of the club, everyone knows the financial parameters of the club, and there shouldn't be any more questions asked on that side of things.

“But it is what it is, and it is where it is and I'm glad everyone knows exactly what's happening. The support of the football club is phenomenal, as I've said, it's unrivalled, so I'm pretty sure the fans were happy with what the owner said.”

He says the transfer window closing for Premier League and Championship clubs yesterday wasn’t too much of a relief in the end.

“It wasn't too hard that, it wasn't too difficult as such,” he reflected. “Now it's shut no one can really move, but it wasn't too difficult.”
