Drinan Joins GAIS on Loan
Thursday, 8th Aug 2019 16:00

Striker Aaron Drinan has joined Swedish second-tier side GAIS on loan until January.

Drinan, 21, joined up with the Gothenburg-based club last week for a trial along with team-mate Barry Cotter, who is now back at Portman Road and played for the U23s at Maldon and Tiptree last night.

Irish U21 international Drinan was signed from Waterford in January 2018 and was on the first-team bench on a number of occasions but without making his senior debut for the Blues.

Drinan, who is contracted to Town until the summer of 2021 with the club having an option for an additional year, has spent much of 2019 on loan back with Waterford in the League of Ireland before being recalled in mid-June.

Good move, new expirience, still think he may have something to offer in the future.

Where there’s life there’s hope ,and let’s hope he gets plenty of opportunity and improves as a result .
We can most certainly do with him returning fit and sharp ready to step up at ITFC .

Why has Cotter returned to PR, thought he was doing a similar loan?

Was the trial actually a trial with a view to move these players on? Not sure I really understood the last article that came out about this

The link up is an experiment to develop young players in a first team environment. That said, I think Drinan is more likely to leave permanently before Cotter.

Trial with a view to a loan.

He has plenty to offer ITFC, in the Murphy mould. Let's hope that he has a successful loan spell with many meaningful games under his belt.
