Fourth Sell-On Windfall for Blues as Moore Completes Wigan Move
Monday, 5th Aug 2019 18:37

Town are set to receive a small sell-on windfall after former striker Kieffer Moore completed his move from Barnsley to Wigan Athletic.

The fee is reported to be an initial £2.5 million rising to £3 million, lower than the figure claimed last week.

The Blues are understood to be due 10 per cent of the profit the Tykes make on Moore, 26, who Town sold to the South Yorkshiremen for £750,000 in January 2018.

That comes to £175,000, however, his former club Forest Green Rovers will be entitled to a percentage of that figure, perhaps as much as 20 per cent having picked up a six-figure sum from the big frontman's previous move.

Town have already received more significant windfalls from Adam Webster joining Brighton from Bristol City, Matt Clarke’s switch from Portsmouth to the Seagulls and Tyrone Mings’s move from AFC Bournemouth to Aston Villa.

In total, from the four deals, Town are due an initial figure probably just over £3 million.

However, with the Blues' income having been reduced by £9 million due to relegation to League One - having made an operating loss of £8.39 million in the financial year to June 2018 in line with most recent Championship seasons - manager Paul Lambert says he's not seen any of it.

“Mings, Clarke, maybe Webster, we haven’t bought one player,” the Blues boss said at Friday's press conference.

“I don’t know if the money has come in, nobody has told me it has come in. I don’t know.”

He added: “Whatever way those deals were structured before I came in, whenever the money comes in, it could be three years' time down the line, four years down the line, it could be now, I don’t know. But you haven’t seen one player I’ve bought, I’ve not bought a player.”

Surely, but surely some of these 4 windfalls must be reinvested in the squad before Thursday. A centre half, a right back and a forward please.

Come on Evans, if you're serious about promotion, get your check book out!

If nothing at all is reinvested into the squad at all this summer, that is a disgrace! Like Lambert said, Evans MUST tell us what is going on. Why are no funds being put into the squad? Does he honestly believe he is the man to take us forward? If we got promoted this season, and still had Evans here next season, we'd come straight back down as it would be impossible for us to compete financially with clubs. Sadly - in today's footballing market - money talks.

I don't think Evans knows what he's doing. These windfalls essentially mean he will lose less money this year. If he is really that uninterested in reinvesting at this stage he should be openly pursuing an appropriate buyer. He is gaining nothing from this ownership. Off-setting profits elsewhere against this loss is a silver lining, but its still a cloud.

Maybe we're saving all our pennies for deadline day?

It does behove ME to explain to everyone .Even if there are difficulties most supporters will understand the prescriptive rules of engagement imposed by EFL.; instead we're left helpless and frustrated by the lack of ability to comprehend .
Whatever is the problem ? Even if ME explained why he can or cannot say or do certain things it would lift the cloud base .
Step up Mr Owner.

Why on earth are the sell ons for ITFC only 10% and giving away 20% of that to make it 8%. It seems every one else has 20% as standard and Forest Green have already earned for the first sell on (as did Portsmouth).

This beggars belief, seems poor business compared to other clubs.

To think we brought this guy in for next to nothing but didn't play him because he wasn't good enough.

To be fair, 10 per cent is pretty standard, 20 per cent is rare.

Why don't you all get real, these sell ons will come in in dribs and drabs over the length of the players contract. In reality there is very little paid upfront, so very little sell on initially. I sometimes wonder about the people on this forum, have they no knowledge how these deals are structured?. Thats why the money for Harrison was used to pay off the outstanding amount still owed.
Besides we have a very good squad of young players here that will not get any experience if we keep signing journeymen.

If ME considers the club in the same manner as his other businesses, then he wouldn't dare upset his investors (in this case, the fans). It would be reasonable for his investors to remain informed of his plans or as a minimum, a Memorandum of Understanding to confirm short term plans for the club (in this case a couple of paragraphs through Lee would do). Failing all that, I find it hard to believe that he has decided to do anything other than cut his losses and sell up at the first opportunity. There just doesn't seem to be any other reason for not activily trying to avoid the same mistakes as previous owners by making the most conservative of investment in the squad to get us from play-off contenders to winning the league

Funny how Wigan, not blessed with either significant resources or attendances, can find £3M plus wages etc. They probably consider that to boost their C'ship survival chances, this modest investment on a reasonable standard striker is money they need to spend. There's a lesson for someone in their approach, and acceptance of footballing reality!

Im sure this goes against what most people want to see but what about believing in our team and our youngsters.

As soon as we sign a right back, Emmanuel wont get a league game. As soon we sign a centre back Wolfenden wont either, nor will Ndaba. PL says Donacian is a centre back as well so that gives us 3 reserves to back up Nsiala and Chambers. And didnt Wolfenden do well on saturday. Plus Garbutt backing up Kenlock so thats 2 full backs each side.

Same for Dozzell if we sign a midfielder. Plus what happens to Jack Lankester or Idris when we sign another attacking midfielder and this this is before we get Judge, Edwards, Norris, Bish back in the team. Didnt Danny Rowe and Garbutt look good.

Yes give us a No 9 that is something different to what we have now maybe. But forget new players that will replace our youngsters. How are we going to raise our kids values unless they play?

PL has lots of tools in this league, he now needs to show he can use them.

I've been saying we need a bit of cover at the back but think Wolfy is going to do the business for us at the back.Stick with Danny Rowe on the wing and wait for the likes of Lancaster etc to come back and we will do ok.

Come on!! How can anyone see this as good ownership or think that this lack of investment is in any way in the best interests of ITFC? It's a scandalous level of neglect that has become completely normalised over the last year or two.

This is Evans' mess, he failed to invest in the squad and now as a direct result we're in a worse state. He employed Hurst and didn't oversee the transfer ins and outs, it was a disaster from beginning to end .
The damage was done by the time Pl come and despite his best it all unravelled. Evans needs to decide to either back PL or sell and let someone else take over .

The reason we are in League One is due to Evans incompetence and failure to invest in the squad. It's there for all to see. This has been a great summer for Evans - comfortably covered a deficit - which he is responsible for - and probably the so called annual investment he normally doesn't make after flogging assets year on year. Shameful.

Wussinwhiteboots. Well that worked out well, last time I looked they just wasted £4 million on a striker and no promotion.

3 defenders and a striker - going for millions of pounds. And that's exactly what we could do with! SMH at the way our club has been run recently.

I believe the problem may be the Financial Fairplay issue. If we spend above our means maybe we get fined or points reduction. Splashing the cash is not an option unless we have maybe 25,000 season tickets which generates the income which can then be spent on players. Just a thought....

Why on earth has Evans remained silent? Has he not learnt any lessons!? The lack of information causes dissension among the fans, the very people you need behind the club. Perhaps he is hoping that if we are within the top half of the table come Christmas, the masses will be appeased and forget the general lack of investment since his appointment. The number of players weve sold to balance his books. If he thought that becoming a football owner (particularly at our level) was a viable way of making a profit then hes a total idiot. When the manager is stating that you owe the fans an explanation, its just embarrassing.

Either provide the funds to bolster the squad for a genuine promotion push, make a statement explaining your reasoning OR just put the club up for sale and lets see whose interested(aka leave now)

All these little sell on clauses are a bonus but it's a pittance when you see what's being spent in this day & age + Webster,Clarke,Mings & Moore have all moved on for a total of around £55M this summer & we've scraped around £3M out of it 🤔

Have said before we need to seriously toughen up as a club when it comes to commanding fees for players rather than seemingly giving in to the first offers that come in.
